I wanted to share a bit of a different perspective as I am a mother to a child with nonverbal autism. He has been considered disabled since he was 3 and a tsunami of intervention specialists, case workers, therapists, etc., have come crashing on my door for the past 4 years. His pediatrician has criticized me for not pursuing ABA therapy (I would prefer trauma informed therapy instead). Every day is a battle trying to navigate how to parent someone who doesn’t have their own voice. I started watching you guys because it inspired me to not hide myself and my son away. As Tim said, you don’t see disable people out for a reason. The world isn’t designed with my son’s sensory needs and so instead of braving the big scary world, we stay inside to stay safe and comfortable. There we aren’t judged, criticized, and forced to fit some mold society expects of us. I’m learning that sheltering him away from the world isn’t doing anybody any favors. I am really excited to read Tim’s book and appreciate his perspective.

I really appreciated this episode. My older brother has "special needs" and while he has always been a huge part of my life, the role most recently has shifted as I've gained guardianship of him (to avoid him becoming a ward of the state)..this is a result of our mother dying young and now our father aging.. The journey has been difficult as I learn to navigate the different aspects of his life and also change my life to add this new "responsibility." Currently, I'm helping my brother open an online art shop to display and sell some of his paintings and homemade jewelry. I can't wait to read your book Tim. Thank you for all you have done and thank you Ben for having this awesome guest on your podcast.

This is an intriguing conversation. From my point of view I see us all being victims in this way The system is telling us who we should be. How we should behave if we are a man, women, child, student, parent, teacher, intelligent, civilized, religious so many boxes. We try to fit into the box and some make it and others don't. Soon as we try to be the smart one, or skinny one or the rich one, the man, the women we loose ourselves. We begin to conform to someone else's version of who we should be. In my opinion we don't need multiple sexes we need to allow, males to express the variety involved in being males same with women, same with short people, same with cripple people, and same with those who seem normal. Why do we allow someones to tell us who we should be, how we should act, interact, talk, what we should eat, what time we should eat, when we should go on vacation and for how long. Remove the shackles from us all so we can be who we are and see who others are as well

Did you take any video when you were in Israel? I wasn't born again yet when I was watching you when you were learning Hebrew, building Sukkahs and traveling to Israel. Now I'm super interested in watching vlogs of you in Israel. I've been learning Hebrew for the last year and a half. תודה רבה

How did you find friends for you and your kids when you were excommunicated and lost pretty much your whole community? Dealing with a lot of similar things as you and I’m curious how you found new people to have in your life after that. Thank you for your podcasts and KZbin channel!

b&m schools are failing big time. I refused to send my kids to b&m schools as their 30 year failures are coming to light. I am working full time and found cyber school to keep my kids home and safe from the failures.

Just listened. Great episode. I’ve loved your content for years and this is no exception, but a pleasant surprise to hear a fascinating guest share his experiences, as a break from the norm! This is the type of content I’m looking for in podcasts: regular folks sharing their real life experiences in an organic fashion. Theo Von has made a point to include real life, working folks in his podcast “this past weekend”, and I love it when he does. This podcast resembles that content and I’m here for it.
