Hi Luke. I listened to your conversation with your colleague talking about different cultures, between France and England and throughout the conversation and in some period of your conversation I was laughing. Because each Country has it a costume and a different way to speak, walk on the streets. For instance, I am immigrant I left my original Country when I was 27 years old. I sometimes got bored for some behaviour of native people whoI live in. But the best thing we have to do is not take seriously. This is my thought. We must understand that each Country has habits, culture, and different ways to speak to each other. It seems a bit weird some costumes in different Countries, but this is human nature and the only thing we have to do is just carry on trying to integrate into their culture. I remember that when I first arrived in Europe I felt a bit strange on my own, everything caused me mad. Because for instance, I didn't use to wake up early in the morning, and the way the people used to talk, I did not use to. They used to swear all the time, they used to go to a coffee every twenty minutes that annoyed me, made me mad sometimes. I used to ask by myself, why these people are doing this? But it was their culture, In some countries like England, for example, people like going to a pub after work, and drinking a lot, in Portugal, people like drinking coffee all the time, in my Country, I am African people there normally at the weekend like meet friends and going out and just return home after two days. To be honest, I like learning about different cultures, understand their habits. I left my country, because of all these things I mentioned earlier, and because I like to be in contact with people from different backgrounds, and here, I am in England now. I am feeling very happy to be here, learn about England culture, learn the very important language in the world in my opinion, and enjoying the Country. And my goal is to become an English teacher, and if today I can write all these words is because of you, your podcast that I have been listening. Some difficult expressions in English that I did not know even I had not heard before today I can speak with confidence. Keep doing this amazing job because you have been helping many people learn English like me. Don’t give up, just keep doing. I appreciate.

Hi Luke, this episode was fantastic. Today in my english class I talked with my teacher about the new words that I learned. I had been in France tree times but I haven't been in country. I wonder to go someday to Nice and Borgonha. I love wine and France is the best country to enjoy a wine trip. Before I go to the bed I usually take a glass of wine and it let me relaxed and allow me to sleep a long time. Furthermore, about the new word I learned today, queue, I was chocked with metro in Paris. There is exactly you said. The people get into the train in the same time. You have to fight for a place inside the train and the people there don't used to get up to let the older to sit neither who has a disability. In Brazil, we used to get up to allow them sit down.

Hi! Luke. I lived in Scotland for a few years. I experienced some culture shock when I was there. Even though it was more than 20 years ago, those questions are still on my mind. In the end of this episode, you mentioned that we might find the answers in the episode 192/193. I was very excited and started to google them. Unfortunately, I can not find them. Please tell me how I can get to watch them.

Thanks to Luke and Cara for the talk. In Russia as in Britain we leave parents home after high school and study in big cities universities. New city, new people. And of course dormitory parties Luke mentioned. :D

What is universal is that housing in cities is more expensive than in rural places. I think that living in cities is more complicated rural small towns. I think people who raised in cities have more in common with people who live in other cities than with people in the same country who grew up brutally. The fact 😉

Hi Luke! I'm Joyce and I'm from Brazil, I really like to listen your podcast!! I have a question... Is it rude do say no when people offer you something but you don't want to? I lived in UK over 1 year and when I was in British's people houses and they offered me something like food, tea etc... and I didn't wanted it and said no thanks, some people thought it was rude of me. I was wondering how I could to say "no" without seems rude.
@joaoandre7488
@joaoandre7488 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Joyce. How have you been up to? I think is very rude if someone offers you something with love and you say, no. Because you must first think that person thought of you buying something to you. Even though we don't like the offer, we must accept the offer and say, thank you. If you say, no, you are showing that you don’t care about these people who thought of you with too much love. It's very rude, definitely, by saying, no thank you. This is my opinion about this specific case. I was educated this way and my parents thought me that. I hope you are well in this difficult time. I am from Angola, but I have been living in the UK for some years. I have never been to Brazil before but would like to. Have a nice day and keep safe.

Hi all, interesting podcast, I totally agree with you... I'm from Strasbourg but I've been living in Granada (Andalusia, Spain) for about 21 years. I don't really miss Alsace but I do miss hearing people say "p'tain, fait chier, hooo la la, va te faire foutre, pauv'con va, .... " You're no totally integrated if you can't say these words naturally... Well, it's not really easy to stand French people, they make you feel exhausted, frustrated... as they complain all the time but it's definitely a nice country... Indeed, it's not easy to be a Brit or a French abroad. I feel the same as you here in Andalusia... but I just try not to lose myself justifying all the time my background/ origins or why I decided to settle and live here... I try to be myself and feel proud of being different with a very slight French accent, there's no need to insist on my cultural origin, yes I'm very proud to speak Spanish with a little tiny French accent. It's really cool to feel different.. You'll feel totally integrated in France once you're tired of French people.... That's how French integration works, sorry to confess it 😉😉😉

A massive and colossal social experiment should be done, Luke. All the Paris inhabitants should be moved to London and the other way around for, let say, a year. Obviously, they'll be moved into equivalent dwellings. The goal of the experiment is to see what happens to their behavior and manners.
