699 - HGIBO Gundam Astaroth (OOB Review)

this was my first ever gunpla kit i just started and after panel lining i fell in love with this kit i think the extra armor and the huge sword gave off a very cloud strife ffvii vibe

Minimal armour is a major plot point for the Astaroth. The family that owned the Astaroth were flat broke, and rather than selling the - very valuable - Astaroth, they chose to strip it for parts and sell them off instead. The entire left arm comes from another Mobile Suit - a Rodi-type, if my memory serves - and as such the thigh-mounted fins are there to stabilise the now unbalanced Gundam. Some of the parts wound up on the Vual, for example.

Thanks for the review! From what I understand it is a pieced together Gundam and I love everything about it's design, It's backstory is really cool. here's a tidbit from gundam wiki- "The Warren Family, one of the Seven Stars, owned the Gundam Astaroth, but was forced to sell its armor and equipment when their financial situation went bad, leaving only the Gundam Frame intact. Hence the Astaroth's armor is now a mix of parts from other mobile suits and an example of this is that its left forearm armor and left shoulder armor is from a UGY-R38 Spinner Rodi" Hence the random armor pieces. I really like that idea, most gundam just are what they are with little explanation, while this one seems fully fleshed out. Too cool, can't wait to build it!

This mobile suit has been catching my eye at my local barns and noble for quite some time. Hopefully when I go to my convention next week, I can get my hands on this as well as a few extra ones to help customize it. I think this would suit me better for my first model to make for now.

You can actually store the rifle on the bacpack with the adapter piece used for the demolition knife, just take the longer piece and stick it through the rifles handle into the backpacks peghole and it'll stay rather neatly on the backpack =) Doesn't get in the way of storing the demolition knife either!

I know this kit is supposed to be somewhat of a "mash up" with different parts because the family sold some of it. However, I kinda wish it was more asymmetrical, like the Wing Finece. Only the arm and that one leg section doesn't seem "mashed up" to me. I like it, but I wish it had a bit more to offer.

an easy way to switch the armor on the arms would be to detach the arms from the shoulders at the bicep swivel and put the arms on the opposite shoulder, then just switch the hands and shoulder armor.

Man this kit looks good, I need to get one ASAP. I am not a fan of the rifle however. Might get an option set to fix that. This kit reminds me of the G-Lucifer with the side skirts a tiny bit. Awesome display at the end btw.

a cool idea for the sword could be making when it is folded, have it be a big gun. the main handle could be the sight, and you could make a little piece to stick on the end that looks like a little barrel or something. Because while folded it looks like a huge gun.

i like the idea of this kit, the asymmetry the large power fist thing and the weapons but im not a fan of how they executed it in this gundam i think ill just do a custom that includes these ideas but is more in line with my tastes. good review though as always

Cyber_ Phantom_627 try wrapping some tape around the ball joint, you'll need a thin strip and you might have to do it a couple of times to get it just right.

The backs of the hands would not fit, although you could shave the pegs. While the legs are symmeric in over all shape, the knee armor details are different, and are not interchangeable.
