Exactly-!! let the family cheer for their kid? Is this Hitlers school? Over the top. There are RULES in place to protect everyone-!! Like no weapons etc. But then there are just ridiculous rules based on Karens having a miserable life so they don't want to see any expression of happiness from others.

@taxicamel okay, write a 50 page essay about it.... 😂. You clearly Care-A-Lot about this. But somehow don't care that a little black girl didn't get her diploma for something as simple as dancing... and actually you're incorrect maybe you should read the article the school clearly stated that they were not allowed to be cheered on by their families. Even the school district came back and said that that was what happened and that they don't stand by it. Apparently you're the only one who stands by it. Even the school district agrees with this girl, that she should be allowed to express herself on stage and that family should be allowed to cheer for their loved ones. But apparently you're the only one here that is against that. You're silly. Watch you be anti dancing but Pro child marriage or something... maybe you should live in the movie Footloose.

would it be ok if some other student decided they wanted to do the moon-walk across the stage? would it be ok if some other student wanted to do the-robot across the stage? would it be ok if some other student decided to do the-worm across the stage? would it be ok if some other student decided to do cart-wheels across the stage has it occurred to you that it's not just the Principal's desire? Like maybe they had a consensus with other staff, school-board, parents, even other students...on what behavior would be ideal for a non-circus-like event?

@@Dandeliondart But you aren't the principal, and not the head of the school board, or anything other than someone that has an opinion on what a ceremony should be or not be. So you want a free-for-all, and no rules, and complete mayhem. The people at this school had other plans. But apparently this girl (and the 3 others not shown or reported on - for SOME reason) decided that they didn't want to follow them. It's called structure. Touchdown dances allow for you to act a fool, but a graduation at West-Point doesn't. People decided on what they wanted this event to look like. And doing the chicken-dance across the stage wasn't a part of what they decided upon.

The "rule" is probably in place from a previous incident of someone getting carried away .....so they may have been forced to make the rule. Try to think outside the box. Many commenter wants to display sympathy for this teen and suggest the school is in the wrong. WHAT???? There was a rule. It was very clearly explained to the graduating class. THERE. IT WAS EXPLAINED!!! DONE ......and everyone else FOLLOWED the rule. Now the teen decides to ignore the rule just explained to her .....and "mommy" ....who has NOTHING to do with the school OR graduating class, makes the opinionated statement "...it is "2023....". What does that mean? Anything at all? Nope. It is just mommy mouthing off ......so now we know where daughter gets it from. I 100% DISAGREE WITH MOST EVERY ONE OF THE COMMENTERS. Every one of the graduating class is following the rule .....and this one CLOWN thinks the rule does not apply to her. THERE IS ONE IN EVERY CLASS. AND, I'll point out, the rule is there, very likely because of a past incident of someone getting carried away with some kind of dancing. There are REASONS for rules. People don't just create rules for the sake of creating rules. Is this little CLOWN going to go through life ignoring rules? Hafsah Abdur-Rahman then has the audacity to say "She (the principal) stole that moment from me. I will never get that again." YES. THAT'S CALLED THE CONSEQUENCE OF YOUR ACTIONS. You're supposed to educated. It looks like this little girl didn't comprehend everything during her education. Rules apply to everyone else ....not her. It seems most commenters think the school and the rule is wrong. It has NOTHING to do with the principal. It is the rule of the school that EVERYONE is expected to follow. This was a serious grose and unjust moment from the school. This young students treatment was uncalled for. She has earned her diploma. To be treated like this infant of her peers, friends and family was a total misrepresentation and abuse bordering on racism. She deserved more than apology. Shame on you school.

The school district of Philadelphia should have a big dinner at a wonderful restaurant for all of the students who were denied their diplomas during that graduation ceremony. That way the young ladies would see how proud all Philadelphians are of the young people who have worked so hard. How dare they steal your joy for such a petty thing. They always have to show you "whose boss",even when it is ridiculous. I hope you have a wonderful dinner!

The fact that she even had a 'denied diploma basket' beside her shows this was definitely not her first rodeo throughout her career. Such power abuse displayed, and what even the point?? She must love sucking joy out of people's life because she's miserable and as we all know, misery loves company.

What a petty act, obviously the principal is not well educated or she would know you are to celebrate your success in life and if that means dancing across the stage then dance. I hope the school board disciplines the principal and that she offers a sincere apology to the student.

She's definitely well educated. Are you promoting a disregard of rules? That's scary. Education teaches you there's a time and a place for everything. That stage was not it. Education teaches you to make wise decisions. That was not one. Education teaches you self control. None was shown here.

@@rkobcan That's perfectly fine to disagree with me. I disagree with you as well. However, I do agree with celebrating one's success. But there is a time and a place for that. Graduation parties are usually thrown following graduation for that reason. Or family trips or dinners. So, based on what you've stated, are you implying that it would be okay for EVERY student to make a celebratory gesture or dance at the next graduation ceremony???

Graduate is meant for a happy occasion and a celebrated day. It's not like they are going to a dead person grave to grieve quietly. Graduate is not for the dead. It something to cheer for. Clapping is meant for that occasion.
