I find Al's voice really soothing, he's got that low rumble , I honestly think he would be great for adverts you see on tv.

Good video as per usual. That’s quite scant reward for what I imagine is a hell of a lot of work to put a video content together and keep it fresh. Fair play to you for sticking at it. I think the channel is great with a great diversity in the vehicles you feature.

Love the way you are constantly assessing and reassessing your options on what to do Al. That beamer looks a right kin mare! Better and quicker option is what you're about to do, swap the engine. But it sounds like its still putting up a fight!

Great video thanks, I feel your pain with the bummer, I’m replacing the DMF due to failure and Clutch kit because I’m in there, on my 13 reg 26,000mile Panda 4x4: I have never worked on a Panda, last clutch I did was a Cavalier! I’m About to put the gearbox back in but it so cold on the drive.

Sound decision Al. You could well have been chasing your tail, spending lots of cash, wasting a lot of time working and waiting for others, to end up with an engine that still doesn't run well. This way you know you're getting a low mileage, dealer serviced engine all you have to do is put in the hours. You may have difficulties matching the engine to the ECU and electronics but it's been done before so you can do it again. Fudgy proving once again that he's worth his weight in gold as regards replacing bodywork components.👍

I'm sure ol' trig will find something to break, it is a Fix Or Repair Daily after all, as for the blown engine, yeah, easier to just swap, especially if there's the possibility the engine's a boat anchor after blowing its' lid... :)

And that’s why I’m a classic car restorer! The thought of getting involved in that would fill me with dread 🤢
@roryhazlie75315 сағат бұрын
Best action on the engine Al coz those engines absolute nightmare to work on and the inlet manifold is nicknamed the hot v and the plastic water pipes get brittle and break with the heat and cost a small fortune to put right more hassle than it’s worth. We had someone in ages ago with a 645ci for overheating and we told home to get rid of it coz it was too much work and was going to cost a fortune coz it was going to be more than the car was worth coz when one bit was fixed then another was going to go and was going to be never out of our garage and would be a problem car plus it had done more mileage than the starship enterprise and had been roasted absolutely rotten and was a bit of a shed plus the threads would come out the block so u would need to drill and helicoil all the bolt holes for the head bolts coz the bmw m52 and m54 engines were like that when u were doing a cylinder head gasket helicoil every cylinder head bolt thread

Thanks gents for yet another brilliant video. Spot on decision about the beemer, especially considering the pitfalls with the original engine. Ì bet anybody who has a beemer like this is now cacking themselves about future wallet based woes if they're one decides its fed up being an engine and wants to be a boat anchor!!! By the way did you let Neil into the workshop or did he take the hint?!!!

At first I thought this was going to be one of the Range Rover V8s, I did timing chains on a supercharged one of those in-situ once, that was one hell of a job! This is a lot earlier and a lot nicer, but still utterly horrific compared to the nice diesels you normally get to play with!

agree, another engine, sell the old one for spares. just done a HG on a 2003 volvo d5, quite a simply ish job compared to the bmw. but even going on ebay and buying the cheapest priced stuff (still elring and ok ish brands) it all added up. then you find other stuff that needs doing. so yeah just drop in engine a get rid. you can see why these old over complicated cars get scrapped.

URM... PROJECT AMBER, CJ & LANCE JUST CASUALLY CAMEOING ON THE CHANNEL? WHUT? That guy did some cracking work on that van a few years ago, engine/gearbox/wiring loom swap from a donor. I dare to say even you might have had to do some head scratching at some of it. He did some really first class work. When I clicked on this video I didn't actually realise it was 6D diseaseals - Swanky BMW's aren't your usual projects. Based on watching Sreten at M539 I have to guess the first thing the factory manual says at doing any kind of major work on one of these is Step 1: Remove engine. I'm sure it makes sense to zi Germans.

Long thin punch to shock shear off bolts,then use long thin pointed punch & tap round anti clockwise on shear off bolts.

How did you manage to talk yourself out of replacing a gasket in favour of replacing the engine? seriously? The threads might out of the block?? Really? The roof might collapse on the car , Aliens might land in search of BMW 6 series technology. The cost of a headgasket, skim the head, Day and 1/2 to take it apart, Day and 1 1/2 to reassemble is not going to make it uneconomic
