I remember watching this test match during u16 state championships in Brisbane, apart from warners brilliance in his 09 debut against SA he was unproven in the red ball game. It was so incredible watching him carry his bat in just his second test - we all felt as a group of 16 year olds that Australian cricket was safe for a few years. Great times

Wow, what a beautiful video. You can truly only connect the dots and draw the lines looking backwards. The narrative you constructed of the rise and fall of Aussie cricket here was amazing. You could draw a similar narrative of the fall of the great Indian batting line up and the rise of the next giant. In the series you covered which ended up being the last one for Dravid Laxman had a few other narratives from the Indian side too. This team hadn't managed to make 400 in any test inning for 10+ matches. That 400 in the 2nd inning at Sydney was the first time they had done so, and also the last time the combination of Dravid Laxman Tendulkar and Sehwag made 400 in an inning together. The Adelaide test with the Kohli 100 was the first in a line of 10 test centuries (as of 2024) for Virat and a sign of the next giant to come. This 4-0 loss for India was the last of the really big test losses of this decade. The next tour they lost all matches but they could have won each of the games. Post that tour they haven't lost a single series to Australia. Keep up the amazing work!

The parallels between then and now are eerie. We have two superstars in Smith and Labuschagne who appear to be aging and losing their edge. We have an aging seam attack and a spinner who's now into his late 30's. Khawaja is also old for a test batter (he'll be 38 by the MCG test) and it's a bit early to say but he may be losing his edge as well. And we have a selection panel that seems unwilling to weild the axe. I thought before this series started Marnus should have been dropped and Marsh if he can't bowl is just not fulfilling the role that Australia need. Cameron Green was covering some glaring holes (he pretty much stole a test match for Australia in NZ this year) and with him out the team looks tired and unbalanced. My first test team would have been Khawaja, Bancroft, McSweeney, Smith, Head, Webster, Carey, Cummins, Starc, Lyon, Hazelwood. I know Bancroft had a horror start to the year but Perth is his home deck and instead we threw McSweeney in against Bumrah. Crazy selection.

I'm a complete nobody when it comes to cricket but one night several years later, Clarke comes up to me in a nightclub the calls me by my name and I was a iittle surprised. Even though he was a complete tosser on the field, off field he was came across like a reasonable guy and I would have to give him credit for that.

Unfortunately they couldn't keep this form and were in turned whitewashed in the next BGT, Remember Michael Clarke stating about Dhoni's seriousness in that BGT, In 2012/13 India would get back at Aus at home whitewashing the visitors eventually, Aus would get back their momentum after 2013/14 Ashes but lose it after Clarke's and Mitchell Johnson's retirement.

Let's not panic over a couple of test losses, the Aussies to bounce back in Adelaide, and yes I would give the opening partnership another chance. Problem is a few players are being selected for reputation rather than results on the pitch, have the selectors forgotten there's a huge amount of talent floating around at the State level? I remember the Border years, all doom and gloom, then the Aussie team started grinding out great wins. Never discount an Aussie team, in any sport!
