Just settling in to the Steve 4 part mini-series (with my knitting - no joke lol). I've been watching your channel since the first video and I was horrified at the booktube hate you got back then too. I was so sad thinking there was no way someone could handle it and stay - but you did! With enormous dignity too! Thank god for that.

Absolutely! Has to be "Frasier". Best series ever! (Of course, I enjoyed all the questions and answers...but "Frasier" resonates with me, especially.) :) Thanks for sharing, Steve.

I think you should be ready for the 7K subscribers Q&A as I’m quite sure you will make it to that milestone. Glad you are still here and that you didn’t retreat after all the drama when your channel was new.

Thanks for your answer Steve. The wave of primary and high school students protesting around Australia recently about the inaction on climate change makes me optimistic about young peoples' stewardship too. Love these Q&A videos! P.S. I recently sent you an email hoping to get a reccomendation for an even-handed biography/history of George Washington to compare with Ron Chernow's book. Any titles off the top of your head?

I'm such a Steve-Nerd... Not only rewatching back-catalogue videos, but actually did the math based on your stated averages and factoring in the maximum end of "average page counts". I really wish I could do even a quarter of your monthly reading... But, you know.... Pants, and responsibilities, and such.... But honestly, I genuinely hope to one day make my days just revolve around books and writing (& dogs). But, I know that might be a flighty goal these days.

So sad so many people are addicted to tobacco. I am currently not drinking coffee, but I do drink tea. I had no idea you were the target of a social media hate storm back in your early Booktubing days. Congratulations for hanging on. Some people are so unloving... really sad... well, into every life some rain must fall. I've had my share of rain. Some hurts are difficult to leave behind. Long video! My video editor won't upload videos longer than 15 minutes. I did listen to this entire video. You have a lot to say, and can say it well.

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION!! I always thought I was a peon in the community of your audience, unworthy of your notice due to my lack of ability to contribute to any of the intellectual conversations you have on this channel because I am uncultured swine! However, you did me a service and made my night! I just happy squealed at my boyfriend making him listen to you say my name and answer my question cause now I'm cooler than he is. I'm Booktube cool!! 😁😁😁😁 *********Edit********** I STUMPED YOU! THREE. TIMES. 🤯🤯😎😎

Hi Steve, thanks for answering my questions! :) Even though I'm from Portugal, I've lived all my live in Lisbon and I bet you know Aveiro better than I do! :p Regarding Vergílio Ferreira, I've read a few of his novels and loved them, but I have yet to read his Diaries. Needless to say, tomorrow I'll be going to my local library and pick the first volume up! :) My god, I've yet so many questions for you....!! :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom and I'm hoping you hit 7K soon! :))

@@saintdonoghue I don't know if Vergílio Ferreira is translated into English, but if you read portuguese it would be my pleasure to send you a copy of one of his books (the novels are easier to find, although his complete work is slowly being reprinted). Just name the book! ;) And, if you don't mind me asking, what do you think of Saramago? He is one of our most translated authors and I am curious to know your thoughts on him.

Your ability to detect a tabacco addict from so long a distance away makes me think your sense of smell must be as powerful as Tracker in Black Leopard, Red Wolf.
@saintdonoghue
@saintdonoghue 5 жыл бұрын
Hah! I'm neither as skilled nor as alluring as Tracker! But in this case I don't need to be, since this particular addiction is detectable from great distances mainly because it leaves tell-tale visual signs that don't require proximity!

Thank you, Steve, for taking time from your busy schedule to answer my questions. I am sorry I brought up a sore subject or subjects (if you include Mitt Romney lol). I realized later that this was a celebratory occasion and should have asked more gentler questions. Congratulations on 6K subscribers, I’m sure you’ll be hitting 5 figures in no time!!

Kicked the nicotine or cigarette problem years and years ago. Still drink coffee, but mostly because I actually like the taste and the social experience. I’ve given it up on occasion for one reason or another, but still...I could slide into drinking, but why? I like to be at least semi-alert. Too right on politics and Mitt Romney. Oh for a trip,to the Brattle with you. I agree about young people. They give me cause for hope. Xenophobic almost makes me despair though. ETA I thought I was the only non-academic who went to the back of histories and biographies first to see where the author was coming from.

That was the real thing that separated me from nightly wine: I simply couldn't afford the TIME anymore, the hours of not being able to work clearly or lastingly. It's one thing, I suppose, if you tell your friends you're working on a novel but you're really getting drunk every time you sit down to write - but it's very different when you're working on a paying deadline! I don't know how somebody could drink and still keep up an active freelance schedule.

"I hope to get this done in one video" Blows it on the first question. Hahahaha I remember the hunting party for your head when you first started. It really went to the extreme, and that is from someone who accidentally encountered all the lash back, and didn't go looking for it. I lost a lot of respect for some booktubers over that. Glad you didn't run for the hills and stuck through it. And I'm also glad you didn't curb your opinions - even if I don't always agree with them. Haha.

Game of Thrones isn't a patch on this... but as a fully paid up member of the whinning, snobbish, pretentious Lit Fic club if I may utter a word in our defence. The prose. This is why I rate Hemingway so highly. I understand the problems with his fiction. But sometimes a cluster of his sentence hammers on your heart... and this is rare even in Lit Fic. Doesn't mean I cannot appreciate Literature where people cross stair steps two at a time, eyes always flash open and somwhere a dog is always barking.
