That Sengun has made this leap so early in his career is a testament to his maturity, ambition and work rate. Not too long ago he looked like Jahlil Okafor 2.0; now he's a legit two way center. Who knows how good he could be by the time he's 25.
@ireneadler4925Ай бұрын
One should also note that he often gets double and even triple teamed, and the lack of consistent outside shooters in the Rockets is preventing them from converting those. If there were consistent shooters, he'd ever have more assists, or he'd get tripled less, therefore converting more. Also, it is said that he bulked during off season, so it's normal for him not to have is usual finger sensitivity in the beginning of the season.

Yeah last year was actually a regression in his D which is kind of crazy to think about first year under the defensive minded Ime Udoka. So much so that Ime called him out and challenged him to put full effort in and boy has he awoken the dragon. Love to see it, because watching him play D last year was actually kind of depressing as he would lose most of the battles at the rim. He's turned it around almost fully while also staying fully involved in the offensive which is just crazy impressive. It's a testament to all the hard work he put in, during the offseason.

I wonder if his point blank FG being down is due to the energy exerted on defense. I think he'll come around. As for the three, I'll take defense this year. He can bring the 3 next year. Damn the future is bright for him and these Rockets. Great video.
@garnettraypaulАй бұрын
He's drop on fg% is almost entirely due to the physical training he did last summer, which is also the reason for his defensive jump. He needs time to adjust to new shooting mechanics, so nothing's in danger yet. Additionally, the fact that his ft% is better means his touch is not only still there but waits to grow as well. He's the perfect example of nonlinear growth at the moment. And we Turkish people can see his determinism. He's one of those types we can tell from kms away he's gonna get what he wants. I am more amazed that he could be molded into the top 10 individual def-rtg category. He's coming strong.

What Alpie does at 5:40 is just next level stuff. Credit to Brooks for knowing to cut, even if a bit late but just amazing salesmanship up until the last second. Greens defender did a solid job waiting until the last second but Alpie simply sold it too well with his eyes and body language pulling Greens defender away from the basket, giving Brooks the space and time to catch and flush it. He's the real deal. The Rockets got a steal with this contract and the great thing is, everyone seems to like Sengun. Like a lot. Watch him interact with literally everyone in the NBA. They all have huge smiles when talking to him and just seem to love the guy. Maybe not Rudy tho 😆💀 I bet he'll get a ring or maybe a fistful by the time he hangs it up. He'll of course have a lot of help getting them, but I don't think he would have it any other way.

Alpi absolutely did come in as a bad defender. And he has spent his whole career improving slowly each season to get to this point. If the Rockets had a good backup center, they would be legit contenders 6:11 These stats are mind-blowing 🤯 and you see it on the court when Sengun sits. Right now their only options are: play a visibly ailing Stephen Adams, or an underperforming Jock Landale both of which are both huge negatives on both sides of the court, or have Jabari play the backup 5 which is what we mostly see now but that isn't going to cut it vs some of the NBA's best centers. Jabari has put on more muscle and weight and has improved considerably in rim protection, but he still can't deal with certain bigs very well. Strangely enough they had a really strong and mobile offensive undrafted big in the preseason but didn't have a roster spot to offer him so another team snatched him up. He would have at least given the Rockets a really good offensive stretch 5 that was fairly mobile and would handle switches at least as good as Adams and Landale. It's going to be such a hamstring team-wise until they can get solid minutes out of the backup 5 spot. Sengun simply can't keep up his insane pace on both sides of the court without the rest he's getting now. 30 minutes doesn't seem like a lot per game, but if you watch Sengun play, you will quickly understand why it's going to be a problem. This video does a great job at showing some of the results of all that effort.

When Amen is in the game, he's a force defensively and a high IQ (maybe highest of the team save Sengun) offensive player that is only getting better by the day. They can wait til the offseason and let this full season shake out. If Green hits: HUGE win. If they trade him now : weak return
