We have an 8520t that had a cable go bad in the track and we couldn't keep the track aligned so out of necessity we ordered a new set from our local JD dealer. We put 16 inch half chevron tracks on and WOW what a difference in ride, old ones rattled your teeth out. Don't know if it's the deeper tread,the different tread pattern or both but the ride quality is definitely much better.

Will have to look into them! I noticed on our 8345rt that it rode much better with new tracks

I appreciate the field and crop work to maintain the organic status. I am interested in what seed pretreatments are acceptable to be labeled organic. Thanks.

We plant all non-GMO seed with no treatments. There might be a omni certified treatment out there but its probably really expensive and doesn't work very well. We figure if we up our planting rate on the organic ground it will compensate for the corn that gets taken out during the tillage practices

Corn looks great. Do you use any fish emulsion or Chilean nitrate for in season nitrogen? We are like you guys and do both conventional and organic crops.

@6thGenFarmer

we have a long finger drag that we use pre-emerge and when the corn is really small. Also have a 60ft rotary hoe that can be used pre emerge and when the corn is very small. Lots of organic farmers have weed zappers, flamers, and a new piece of technology that came out recently is a laser weeder... very expensive and very slow

What's the Fertilizer program you guys use on the organic ground? Also I deliver chemicals to a place in Osage Iowa that makes, I believe they said, an organic pesticide? Was curious if you've heard of that and if so how do they label it organic if they're using the types of chemicals I deliver.

D&S Tire, we’ve gotten tracks there for our 8210t and they can also retread your existing tracks if the core of them are still good.

How do you feed the crop then as i suppose if you put on and cow or pig or chicken manure they would have to be organic too , or do you get in a cover crop and plough it in as you have to feed the land to get a viable crop ? That cultivator must take some pulling but that tractor looks like its not struggling , you should get a small one for you little blue tractor , can't remember if its a Ford or New Holland

So does the 4640 bracket affect turning the seat any? Like is there any places where it would hit? We got a 8420 we spread lime with and we drive so fast it’s hard to do stuff on the 4640.

Is there a cost to be organic farm? What is involved in certified organic farm?
@6thGenFarmer
@6thGenFarmer 3 ай бұрын
Lots and lots of paperwork. We have our organic farm in a different LLC than the rest of the farm to keep all the paperwork separate. I don't remember if their is a cost to transition but we had to pay for the LLC and we hire an organic consulting group that helps us with records and paperwork. Very hard to do without the consultants

Is the weed pressure getting less as the years go by ?
@6thGenFarmer
@6thGenFarmer 3 ай бұрын
It seems to depend on the year and how well our neighbors keep their fields under control. You never will have a weed free field, we just try our best to keep ahead of the weed pressure that we do have

that is a question I do not know the answer to. We always make sure that our trash is minimal before we start planting. Vertical tillage or high speed discs

Pretty much. with chemicals you can very efficiently get every weed. 120ft at 15mph with a much higher kill rate than 60ft at 2-6mph
