I am a fluent English speaker, and I have been since I learned how to speak but I was always amazed by different languages, so I decided to come and watch how other nationalities learn my language!
Yeah, my American friend told me some 'like's are okay, but too many 'like's might make people feel you are unconfident, which is not great.

还有一种无意义的filler word就是actually。作为其实的意思,它有一定表示转折、纠正对方的含义,也有讲解一个令人可能出乎意料的情况。有些人特别习惯滥用这个词: -What time is it now? -It's *actually* 2:30. -...okay? -What's the name of this class? -This is *actually* Econ 101.

Abusing "Likes" as a filling word is one of the characteristics of the constantly up-talking "Valley Girl" accent, which is considered DUMB by most Americans. 1:14 is a good example of such accent.

Hi maggie, thank you so much! May I ask what "a cup" stands for? ("would you like a cup?" ) Does it mean a cup of wine by default? or something else?
@toyootoyoo6396 жыл бұрын
In my opinion ,"a cup of coffee or tea" . btw, a glass of wine sounds better.

Honestly, it was more freedom than China I deemed, there were in terms of things or stuffs you might not be touch and get close to it. For instance, guns, sports and fastest surfing on internet which gets into google or Facebook something like that really quick! You could also join expedition of mountain climbing, hunting, even more unexpected style that you would not think about it before. To me, it is the most important part of my life to be an American instead of Chinese!

It is actually wrong for Maggie just said "like" is like saying "said". If you use "like", it is you describing the event/or what happened. When you use "said", you are trying to repeat exactly what other people said as in using their own words. E.g. Lucy saw her bf kissing another girl yesterday, but she was like so calm as if nothing happened. (Here u are the one interpreting how Lucy acted) vs Lucy said she was so calm as if nothing happened when she saw her bf kissing another girl yesterday. (Here, it is Lucy herself telling you how she reacted, it might even be a lie since you didnt really see if she was calm or not.)
