I wish I was half as cool as the guy who built that thing. That has to be one of the most beautiful live steamers I’ve ever seen, and it has a great whistle too!

Harry Haas Sr. was an amazing and prolific builder. I remember when I first heard this loco was coming to the new owner at the club. He and I both hold the K-28 as our favorite narrow gauge Mikado. Coincidentally, there are at least 3 locomotives currently living at RLS that were built by Harry.

I thought I recognized the park in Riverside, CA! I spent the first 7 years of my life in Colton and would go there with my dad and grandpa back in the early 80s (Born 1980). For the longest time we had thought it was closed down for years, but, decided to see if it may still be there and go for my son's 3rd birthday. Such awesome childhood memories I have riding these trains and the ones at Orange Empire in Perris as a child and being able to share with my wife and our son.

Man, i haven't been to that park in so many years. Last time i went back i was like 12 or 13. I was a little kid, visiting with my grandfather and younger brother. I got to walk in the sheds and see their amazing collection, including a massive 4000 class big boy. Many years later, I'm outta high school, my younger brother is starting his Junior year, and the same grandfather who took me there has now since passed on.... I wish i could relive the moment with him once more Edit: i want to also mention I got to ride the D&S back in 2023 to celebrate my graduation and this 476 funny enough was one of the locomotives that pulled my train. I even got a guidebook i bought signed by the engineer and fireman of the same locomotive

That is an amazing scaled-down model of a K-28 class Mikado and it’s even better that it’s a model of my favorite of the three surviving locomotives number 476 it’s worth mentioning that 2023 was marked the 100th of all three locomotives on the Durango and Silverton and happy to say that 478 will be restored back to operating condition and for the first time since the 1990s the surviving Trio of K-28 Class locomotives will be operating together once again

The engineer is almost as big as the locomotive! LOL. I always laugh, when I see these old guys riding on those trains, like kids do on train rides at amusement parks.

Very nice job. The whistle is about as close to the full size Rio Grande whistles as can be.

any way to get complete set of drawings for the locomotive/tender and caboose? would love to build myself

Those plans are long gone, but the locomotive can be seen at the Riverside live steamers. You could get lucky and catch the new owner and talk to him about it as well as get photos for reference. It is a 1/1 build and no other has been produced to my knowledge.

Can anyone speak to how it was manufactured? Particularly the boiler and class specific castings? Thanks

was this the locomotive that used to be at Dobwalls many years ago?

It looks like 7.5 narrow gauge loco. You get a little bigger engine that your average standard gauge.

does harry haas still own 476 or did he sell it?
@_mdh_19986 ай бұрын
It is in the hands of a new owner, all cars and loco. I will tell you, it’s loved where it’s at. And will continue to be taken care of the way it needs to be.
