I was fortunate to see John Hammond open for Ray Charles about 30 years ago. It is still one of my favorite shows of all time. Of course, sitting in the third row from the stage didn't hurt the experience one bit. Hammond broke a string mid-song, and finished the song like nothing happened. He blew me away with his talent. The guy who gave us Stevie Ray Vaughan is a legend.

John Hammond Sr also discovered Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, among many others. And John Hammond Jr. Introduced Dylan to The Band. I was blessed to be able to spend some time backstage in Rochester NY with John and his wife Marla- they're both lovely people. I had seen Murali Coryell (Larry Coryell's son) a few days prior, and upon mentioning his name, Marla pulls out her notebook and asked if I happened to have his number, because she hadn't been in touch with him in awhile. I did, Murali later thanked me for passing his number to her. John Hammond Jr is still mad that no one recorded anything when he had both Hendrix and Clapton in his band for... 3 days or so. What a band that would have been! :)
