'83- early '94 6.9 and 7.3 IDIs were some of the most reliable long lasting engines you could get back then, only after increasing the boost did the early 6BTs out perform them and the factree auto trans was junk compared to Ford's and the trucks are called shipping crates for a reason. I see more 80-97 OBS HD 3/4t-1t Fords on the road than any other brand from those years.

It's so easy to swap these trucks to manual especially the 2wd. The ZF5 diesel/460 big block transmission is a lot easier to find then the small block ZF5 and then all you need is to find any clutch pedal from 80-97. Now you can get away with hauling a heavy load of firewood in an auto in Alberta because it's flat there but that auto seemed like it was ready to die
