Your so right about starting fluid! I repair a lot of Nissan Patrols here in Ireland. I drive them too for over 15 years now. I have seen pistons go to 500k and pistons perfect and I seen one abused on starting fluid with no2 and 4 with hairline cracks. Saying all that hairline cracks may never give anymore problems. Lot of work to strip, depends on milage and how much money customer wants to spend.

I've been lucky I guess. I have 02 f250 7.3 powerstroke just turned 500k set of injector and glow plugs have been my only big dollar problem. It stock and pulls large camp trailer all over the northwest.

Ive been working on 7.3's for so long can't remember and I have seen this in certain years Its a bad batch of aluminum,,,, It happens

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD what years?? I have a 97. Do I need to worry? I’m going to build the engine up a bit. If pistons are a weak point I’ll do pistons first

FYI....This is the FIRST diesel I have ever had to rebuild . All my trucks including 6.5 Chevy turbo and non turbo.....old 4.9 ford. 7.3 idi Duramax which IMO has been the best truck and least problems ALL STOCK. VW RABBIT diesels 1.9, Jetta TDI diesels. I have them all..... Have never needed to be rebuilt. with up to and over 400k miles. IMO pretty pathetic to have to rebuild a diesel engine with 183 on the clock. JUST SAYIN.....

Was this running decent aside from blow by before you took the engine apart? My current 7.3 still has plenty of power but the worst blow by I ever seen.

Is it blow by or just vapor??

Where is the swirl pattern?
@thegeneralstrike67474 жыл бұрын
Ether does in yer valves never seen a single cracked piston from ether. Rag soaked with gas layed over the filter box opening. Never seen a diesel with no swirl mark on the pistons? 26 years never seen 8 pistons with zero 4 leaf clovers!

Pushing more fuel wouldn't have affected the crank at all, and rolling coal doesn't always mean high egts. You may have multiple diesel pickup trucks but you obviously haven't go that far into the technical side if your saying thing like this. Edit: I mean seriously? Talking about air fuel ratios like it has a perfect A/F ratio like a gasser. Stop talking like you know diesels in and out and have years of experience working on them.

interesting. WOW....
@Mikefngarage3 жыл бұрын
WTF are you talking about there is air fuel ratios on diesel. Just shut off the air and see if it will still run. THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE FLAPPERS... to help control runaway. when you have too much fuel and not enough air the burn is hotter. Ask any knowledgeable diesel tech. That is why turbo helps get them to be more efficient. More AIR and FUEL to get a stronger pop.....otherwise why put a turbo on. Just to have higher pressures....I dont think so....Air is needed for the explosion to be efficient.

The butterfly valve in the intake on most newer diesels is not a positive air shutdown. It partially closes to allow the egr to function properly

Lots more 7.3s and Cummins powered trucks with over a million miles than a truck powered with a duramax. That’s all I gotta say. Every engine has its bad batch. You just happen to have one. I’ve owned 4 trucks powered by a 7.3 powerstroke and they’ve been anyway from 87k miles to 350k miles. Tuned and not tuned. I haven’t broken a single one and they’re all still rolling down the road. I used to work on a farm that had nothing but duramax trucks and one Cummins truck to pull the harvester. 2016 Chevy 3500 broke a piston with under 100k miles, guy doesn’t run his stuff hard at all, explain that for me.

LOL. Wont buy a 6.0? My 03 6.0 has 318,000 miles bone stock except for strait pipe. Best truck i have ever owned.Bought new in May 03. 1 set of injectors and a coolant pump. thats it. They get a bad rap. Its because people dont know how to maintain them. ,

I would say lucky. Unless you do the total bulletproof. new heads studded block and upgrade the oil cooler. total cost about 10 grand at a shop. I have no issues with any of my Duramax diesels just as many miles pulling all day long.
