Hey Everybody! I know it's been a while since I last uploaded a video.... Lets just say I've had a lot going on lately. I changed jobs, and moved out of state for starters. I hope you enjoy this new episode. I have the 7.3 Built and ready to go back into the truck. In this eppisode I'll reassemble the long block, install a few horsepower goodies I got from Irate, and show a little bit of how I powder coat with a hobby kit at home and get a nice finish. Please like subscribe and comment and let me know what you think of this crazy project!

Incredible level of detail and helpful tips. Appreciate you making this series and sharing all your knowledge. I think it’s funny though, people always say my truck (97 7.3L) sounds like a school bus and the best video I’ve found on the motor is from a Blue Bird employee! Keep the awesome content coming!

Mark, Thank you for the comment! I know there are poeple that are interresed in doing this same swap, or upgrading their OBS 7.3 but there really isnt much info out there. I have gotten a lot of greif about "Just put a Cummins in it." But I would rather keep it all Ford. I use to be a school bus technician, and the T444E is a very similar engine, the block and heads are the same.... Thats about it though. Light duty application has quite a few differences. but either way, alot of the info is the same. Thanks for watching!

A very good one I might add. I was a Machine Builder and Machinist at Polaroid back in the day! I plan to watch every one of you videos. Also an excelent Job. Note, do you bag your bolt and box components in you off camera moments??? I will stay tuned for the rest of the show :o) ...

Thank you! I didn't do anything with the heads, or the short block because I didn't see a need to. I did a compression test before I took the engine out of the donor (had between 398 and 406 across all 8) and when I had the oil pan off I took a look at 1 rod bearing, and 1 main bearing, no issues seen, so I didn't see a need to go any further. No I don't bag bolts. I just put them in groups and organize stuff.

Thank you! I'm glad you like my videos. I don't know how many miles were on the engine. The odometer in the donor truck had junk yard paint pen markings on it, and the engine serial number dates it as a 1998. I did check the compression before I took it all apart and it had between 385 and 405 in all cylinders. I peeked at the cylinders, and a few bearings when I had the oil pan off. I think it is a reman crate motor. 🤷

If the o rings didn't have fluids moving past them then I would have used a grease.. but with the flow of oil and fuel.... The grease will eventually wash away.... Leaving an o ring no different than if it were installed with an oil/petroleum based lubricant.

@mygarage.
@mygarage. 2 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question. Was it running when it was parked? I would make sure the batteries are good, and fully charged. Make sure there is oil,, and Coolant in it,, then I would probably remove the glow plugs, and crank it over a few times to make sure it's not seized. If it turns over, put the glow plugs back in and fire it off.

Say Hey... Anyone out there have an opinion about using electric fan for the radiator instead of the clutch fan ??
@mygarage.
@mygarage. 9 ай бұрын
Hey Bob! My opinion is that you are not going to find an electric fan that can move air like the clutch fan does. And the 7.3 makes enough power that it really doesn't make a noticeable difference. If anything... Upgrade to the plastic fan blade.

Can you take the stock manifold off without taking off the timing cover?
@mygarage.
@mygarage. 3 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey, Yes, you can take the stock manifolds off without removing the timing cover, the bolts are still a tight fit, but the stock manifolds are stamped sheet metal and very thin. Just take the bolt by the cover as loose as you can get it, and it will let the manifold come out. The stock ones are glued down pretty tight, so you may have to pull and pry pretty hard to get them off.

This engine weighs about 1,000 pounds fully dressed. The stand I was using was rated for 1,000 pounds.
