7.5.3 of Griffith's Introduction to Electrodynamics 2nd Ed
If we try to write the force per unit volume in terms of E and B alone, we get an equation that exhibits some sort of symmetry, but is still quite complicated.

At 2:00, you say 'gradient of E vector'. Should be 'divergence of E vector'. Good video. Thanks

Any good "how to differentiate a cross product" resources you would recommend? I know it is just the product rule in *form*, but I was curious about the exact derivation because we skimmed over that.

If you know multi-variable calculus, it isn't hard to derive. It's just a lot of bookkeeping.

I have a question: aren’t the E’s different in the formulation of the force? A charge distribution, rho = Div(epsilon*E_1) and external field E_ext should be associated with two different E’s. Am I missing something here?

There's a difference between 'thou' (something) by 'thou' (t) and 'd' (something) by 'd' (t)....referring to partial derivatives in case of the former.Anyways, great video, thanks!!

at 3:35 how did you take the time derivative of E x B, is ordinary algebra applicable here.? like just distributing the derivative operator .!

Pretty sure you can just expand E x B and then take the time derivative and prove it for yourself. Noting that E and B are just random fields, you'll realize that you can generalize it to say that any time derivative of a curl uses the chain rule.
