Hi Mr. Poser, for the heterozygous genotype Aa, why do you have to multiply it by 2? I know it is in the equation, but why do you have to do it in the first place?

Hi Michael - it's kind of just how the math works out, because of the other H-W equation. If p+q = 1, then p2 + 2pq + p2 have to equal 1 too. p2 + 2pq + p2 is just p+q factored out. (p + q) * (p + q) = p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1 (0.4 + 0.6) * (0.4 + 0.6) = 1 0.16 + 0.24 + 0.24 + 0.36 = 1
