Probably something to mention as a pin or in the description, since it seems youtube is pushing this video to foundry users: The overhead tile module wont be necessary after 8.3 as they are making that natively supported.

I’ve recently fallen in love with Foriens Quest Log and the Loot Sheet 5e. with a couple macros for the loot you can convert a monster into a lootable creature which makes this whole “what did this thing have on it” experience go away and keeps the story going. Little bit more work on the front but makes it smooth. The quest log is great because it keeps track of everything and you could make it more complex with ai quest and steps too making it feel a little more like a mmorpg, which as you play virtually does make sense.

I love Foriens Quest Log - It'll probably be in the next video I make. Loot Sheet 5e is on my list of modules to try out. I've been using D&D Beyond to track everything, but I'm moving away from that setup, which opens up Loot Sheet 5e (and other addons) as options.

Monster Blocks works great with the GM screen. It makes monster stat blocks look like the book. Just make sure to have spellcasting generated by default.

Great video and I know what you mean about so many modules. A few I quite like are TorchLight - can quickly add torch, lantern or light cantrip light to player actors. Thandul's Togglable Effects is good to quickly add D&D things like Rage, Haste, Slow and more effects to actors so it adds all the bonuses and things. My players love Polyglot to actually make knowing different languages work.

Thanks! I haven't experimented with either of those yet, but I'll definitely give them a shot.

Good video. Thanks! excited to see what other QOL things you can teach me as I "master" foundry. Just discovered Foundry has a 3-D module that reminds me of TaleSpire, I will be very excited to see if you have done a video on that!

GM Screen actually has gotten some pretty nice functionality added to it that I believe was not in at the time of this video (might be wrong). In the module settings you can set up multiple tabs with different grid layouts. Using my own setup as an example: I have one page with only one cell where i've put all of the status effects in a simple table for reference. Then I have three pages for stat blocks, two stat blocks per page (2x1 cells). Instead of having a pdf or web browser with the info on the side, I instead put the stat blocks in journals and then I can just drag the journal into one of the stat block cells and I've got it ready to go at a moments notice. If there's one module I'd say is indispensable for GMs, GM Screen is it. Highly recommend using it.

Thanks for the kind words, Doctor Tredecim! My newer videos are somewhat better, as I upgraded from a webcam to my Google Pixel... but it's still not amazing camera work. I assume I'll upgrade to a DSLR at some point, but I haven't done the research yet. Any camera recommendations?

It’s a nice little thing that you can use, for example, to add a clerics spiritual guardians spell effect damage radius to the token. So as they move, it moves with them, that’s a basic qol option. Baileywiki uses it to great effect to create interactive prebuilt foundry maps too
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, effects that travel with tokens is the most common thing I plan to use it for. I really didn't do the module justice in this video... that's why I pointed to Baileywiki. Great job over there of going through all the features (~40 min overview... sheesh!) It's a sandbox-y addon that you can let your imagination run wild with.

Thank you for this video! I just picked up Foundry last night and have been hopping through videos to learn about it. I will admit that I was a bit hesitant when I saw the sheer number of add-ons (modules?) I could get for it, but this video covered everything I think I will need to add to run my D&D 5E campaign smoothly. Especially that Beyond importer which is going to be invaluable to me, as I have all the materials on D&D Beyond and a current subscription. Out of curiosity, do you still suggest not importing weapons, equipment, and coins?
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
That all depends on how you want to track inventory. If you're tracking it in D&D Beyond, go ahead and import everything. But if you're making inventory changes within Foundry, and then importing from D&D Beyond on top of that, you can run into conflicts. There's a way to ignore certain items when you import, and if you sign up for the Patreon, you can sync both ways (although I haven't tested that) - but I'm still importing only the non-inventory bits.

How do you add the upper layer for the transparent roof layer module?
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I'm so slow responding... using the module, you right click on a tile, and an extra set of options will pop up to the top left of the tile. You can change layers there. However, this module will soon be outdated, as this function is being added to the core programming in the 8.X series, which is in beta now but should see a stable release in the next couple weeks.

Foundry is the best. Cheapest, fastest, most robust, and best for homebrew. And if you're not homebrewing anything, even little tweaks to modules, then what are you doing?
@CopperDragonGames

Probably running a module straight from the books, I guess... but I prefer a little more creativity in my D&D. It's my creative outlet of choice, after all! Thanks for stopping by! Agreed that Foundry is the best!

I have designed a sci fi/space game thats pretty awesome. It's boardgame play/tabletop combined. Am I able to build this in foundry for play testing?
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 2 жыл бұрын
In theory, yes. I haven't tried boardgames in Foundry, but it should be possible. That said, I'd suggest checking out Tabletop Simulator before you invest money in a VTT that was built specifically for RPGs. Or Owlbear Rodeo... most of the same features you'd use for a boardgame are there too, and it's free, and easier to get started with.

Good morning! Quick question...I checked out the link you gave for Gabriel Pickard. He makes some very nice stuff. I see that it takes us to the Roll20 site. Can those also be used with Foundry? I'm very new to VTT and still trying to determine what system I'd like to go with. A buddy of mine uses Foundry and I'm leaning heavily that way if I can find the right art and map making tile sets to use with it. Thanks!
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you should be able to use them even if you purchase them on Roll20. Just download them, add the files to a folder in Foundry, and they can be added as tiles, token images, etc. Warning: This is not the case for all artists on Roll20. Keep a lookout for a big "Cannot be downloaded," statement on the page. That said, you can also download Pickard's work from DriveThruRPG, and I changed the link in the description to reflect that. Let me know if I can help more. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck on your Foundry adventures!

What about the Kobold Press OGL module isn't working at this time? I have it installed and all the monsters are still there with their stats. The do not have art, so you would have to supply the artwork for portraits and tokens, but they seem usable on first glance. Are the powers and features messed up?
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
The list of monsters is the compendium, but features, spells, etc. aren't importing at all as far as I can see. If they're working for you, that's awesome. I'll fiddle with it more this weekend. I wonder if my database got corrupted or something. If I made an erroneous statement about an add-on being dead, I'll do a follow-up explanation/apology video and put a link in this video. It's an odd feeling... knowing I might have to apologize for spreading misinformation but also REALLY hoping I was wrong because I love Kobold Press materials so much and want to use them again without the hassle...
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
UPDATE: I did a lot of fiddling with Kobold Press OGL Compendium this weekend, and found that mine still wasn't working. I don't know if I had a corrupted file, or if I moved files around incorrectly when I was fiddling before, or what happened... but after deleting the add-on manually and reinstalling it, I'm back to the same mostly-working add-on. I don't want to claim that everything is correct, because I haven't combed through it monster by monster and spell by spell, but aside from broken image links, it appears to be working. Apologies for the misinformation.

How do you get all the races classes and other stuff that's not in the SRD?
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
The best way I know of is to purchase it on D&D Beyond, and import it using the D&D Beyond Importer (14:53). You can also add it manually, typing it into character sheets, but that can be tedious.

@@CopperDragonGames So, it isn't Foundry's data? That sounds hella sketch.
@CopperDragonGames
@CopperDragonGames 3 жыл бұрын
@@Veritas.0 Nah, it's the virtual equivalent of printing your character sheet and bringing it to the game table. You can't import anything unless you've paid for it on D&D Beyond, so nothing is pirated, and Foundry isn't selling D&D content, so there's no competition there. Plus there have been similar tools available for Fantasy Grounds and Roll20 for years. If you're really worried about it, though, you can use the Beyond20 extension for Chrome or Firefox to use your D&D Beyond content in Foundry as well. It allows you to click on your sheet in D&D Beyond, and have the rolls show up in Foundry - no import needed.
