IknowrealTV if you are a jeweler you can usually buy replacement parts directly from watch companies. If your not good luck. Allot of watch companies will not sell parts to non business entities. At least that's the way it works in the u.s . i repair watches as a hobby. You could try esslinger.com . they sell generic parts and are widely popular and reliable amongst people who perform repairs. Its best to purchase in large quantities and varied sizes when it comes to parts. At least for me its cost effective.

Hmm, 5 years is pretty short. It's a long-life battery should last closer to 20 years. Storing in a dark place and allowing the battery to run down will wear the battery prematurely. Make sure to wear occasionally, or store in such a way that there's enough light to keep the cell charged.

Not difficult at all, once you identify/find/order the correct "Eco-drive" power cell for your particular watch.

great video, i have an as2031 ti, got it used, was probably kept in a dark drawer, got it to work by placing it near a window for a whole day, but how do i know its time to replace a battery? i noticed that i need to charge the watch using strong led light to maintain its accuracy, but it keeps time for the whole day when i charge uisng the strong led charger,
@friedhelmschroter81244 жыл бұрын
The key criteria should be the lenght the internal rechargeable battery can hold its charge once it is fully loaded, for example by being 5/10 hours in direct sunlight (or longer period in weaker light). Note: When charging in sunlight there should be sufficient wind cooling to avoid heat up (lithium rechargeable batteries = Citizen Eco Drive watches hate high temperatures). In many watches a fully charged battery should last for 1/2 a year (check your manual). If the watch runs on the solar cell being in direct sunlight, but does not work any more after a few days (in bad/extreme cases after a few hours/minutes) according your need when it is moved to a dark environment it is time to replace the battery (movement in 2 second steps is the indicator for the charge being close to 0%). I would say replacement should earliest be necessary after 10 years. Only in case you mistreat your battery for example by shorting during installation, or by ESD touching it with your bare hands, or by deep discharge because of long time storage in a dark environment, or by putting it at quite high temperature the internal rechargeable battery must be replaced earlier. This video is very good on the exchange procedure (wear gloves to avoid ESD and skin particles on the battery that may cause some leakage current), do not touch especially the new battery with metal to avoid shortening), but it lacks a little on the test procedure to confirm that it is really necessary to exchange the battery. A watch running in 2 second steps is only a sign of low charge/voltage on the battery. If such 2 second steps occur one should immediately (the watch will stop 2 second steps after a few days) check if such low charge is caused by a) failure of the charging circuit/solar cell, b) not sufficient powerful light falling onto the watch. Both checks can be done by bringing the watch into direct sunlight (alternatively a strong LED, but not a incandescent light that heats the watch up strongly). Another point is, a replacement battery is charged only partially (ex factory typically around 30%). This means after battery exchange you should put the watch in strong light for a full initial charge (5/10 hours).

My 14 year old eco drive just stopped so I brought it to the jeweller who told me that it's solar and there is no battery. He would not look into it and sent it to the Citizen repair center in...wherever! I tried to splain him that there is indeed a tiny battery for the solar cell to temporarily store energy, but alas he thinks I'm crazy!

what model is it? I got 2 citizens (military field watch and diver watch) just a month ago and I can remove the case back on both of them.
@markwietstock15375 жыл бұрын
Every watch back can be removed. If the back is "smooth all around" that simply indicates it doesn't open by turning, but by using a jeweler's screwdriver to pop the back off. Use a magnifying glass to examine the entire perimeter of the back. You should be able to find a small notch somewhere in that perimeter for use of a screwdriver to remove the back.

I believe your watch just needs to charge by leaving it facing the sun for 4 or 5 hours and it should be like new.
@adrianotero79636 жыл бұрын
I did the same to a stiletto I had,and it would not revive no matter how much sun it got.... was without power too long,had to have the battery replaced...
@markwietstock15375 жыл бұрын
For anyone else looking at this comment, the "two-second jump" indicates the power cell needs charging. The power cell is just like any other lith ion battery ... they're designed to be continuously used, discharged and recharged, and work best/longest under these conditions. If it just sits in a drawer for years, the active material inside the battery may lose its charge/discharge capacity and become useless. Thus, if, after being put in direct sunlight for a day or so, the watch still doesn't resume normal operation, the power cell was probably damaged through non-use, and needs to be replaced.
@leroybrowne65817 жыл бұрын
Instead of all the focus on fanfare and music, would have been more educational if you actually showed where the contacts meet inside the watch. When I look inside my watch, there are two different spots that look like contact points. I have no idea if the battery is fitting correctly. Watching this video was useless.

No one sells a battery for this kind of watch except the regular battery.
@markwietstock15375 жыл бұрын
"No one" makes the "Eco-drive" power system but Citizen, either. The "regular" watch batteries you can buy retail are typically silver oxide. The power cell used in Citizen Eco-drive is probably lithium ion, and the designs/power cells for the various watches that use it are proprietary to Citizen. That means: 1) you can't get "their" Eco-drive batteries from any typical retail source, and 2) if you're going to do this repair you need to identify/find/order the correct Citizen power cell for your particular watch, as the video shows, e.g., the replacement is in an OEM, Citizen package.
@friedhelmschroter81244 жыл бұрын
Today Citizen claims "Never Needs a Battery". In my understanding this means Citizen expects that today the rechargeable battery inserted during production will show a life time of up to 40 years, while for old Eco Drive watches produced starting 1996 many people reported/confirmed a life time of 10 to 20 years. Seeing the large effort done on lithium batteries for automotive application life time may have really improved strongly in the last 20 years, but if today produced ML920 will really work up to 40 years can only be proven in 40 years (today this expectation is based on real field data for old production and comparing accelerated test data on old and new production). There are a few shops at EBay and at Amazon like www.ebay.com/itm/CITIZEN-SEIKO-WATCH-BATTERY-CAPACITOR-REPLACEMENT-PARTS-REPAIR-SERVICE/162137963338?hash=item25c02cfb4a:g:LYUAAOSwaB5XiaAy that are selling these specific rechargeable batteries for old Eco Drives. These batteries are specific because they consist out of a special 1.5V lithium cell + a metal contact welded to the battery's negative side (see golden part at 1:17). The special lithium cell is produced by Panasonic and is sizewise mostly a MT920 = diameter 9.5mm and height 2.0mm (for smaller watches a MT621). Citizen designates their batteries 295-xx and there exist at least 20 different xx types because the golden minus contact metal has different forms. One difficulty is: Citizen's manuals do not include/tell the correct 295-xx number for a specific watch/movement (Google/the internet may help to find this information).
