I am extremely sensitive to the glues they use on CGM and pump supplies. I use a topical steroid before applying anything and it's helped me so much. I use a Fluticasone nose spray (I know super odd) or Flonase (Amazon has one of the best prices for it) but it's worth a shot if your experiencing itchiness from the adhesives. Hopefully this will help!

@ Type One Talks, I've been wearing Dexcom G5 and G6 for three years. I always place the sensors on my lower lateral abdomen and have never had any problems with placement and wear. Never had one even come close to peel off. I use Skin Tac liquid adhesive painted on the sensor tape itself, not on the skin first. Then let dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Then apply. I have never had any problems with the adhesive not lasting 10 or 20 days. The bottle of liquid is much better than the Skin Tac wipes. (Yes for traveling, the wipes would be better, the bottle is 4 ounces and lasts forever but is 4 ounces. Not OK for airplane travel.). And after removal of the sensor, either TacAway adhesive remover or Detachol Adhesive remover for the residue. T1 for 30 years, my last Glycohemoglobin was 5.8.

Tom, thank you so much for all the videos. I started following you when I 1st got my dexcom g6. I have to say, my favorite location is my upper thigh, but I do have to shave the areas. I'm a side sleeper, so upper arms don't work very well. I'm in the US, so I'm hoping the Libre 3 will come our way soon, I have used the libre 1, but my doctor wanted me to try the dexcom. I still prefer the Libre, and am hoping to switch back soon. Again, thanks for the great videos and info.

Careful with thigh sensors, surgery scheduled tomorrow. My thigh probably too dense/muscular and the sensor wire broke off immediately on injection and is stuck inside my thigh occasionally causing debilitating pain. Will be using at least 1” skin pinchable areas and also a adhesive remover to pull future sensors out straight to avoid this.

Lower abdomen is where I have my first one. I have experienced it being pulled by my belt when I crunch over. Also, if you are hairy, shave off the hair at that area maybe, mine was peeling off within a few days on a couple sections but is still there, particularly because I bought waterproof patches and stuck one over (also didn't stick on well with hair 😄)

I AM the type who normally reads all the instructions and faithfully follows them. But in this video you encouraged me to try alternate placement sites! I'm a side sleeper, so some of your favorites wouldn't work for me. I just tried one that you didn't mention - about halfway up my thigh, about halfway between the front and the inner. Doesn't seem to get in the way of anything, and it measured within 10 points of my stick meter. Slight "rotations" should easily give me upwards of 8 different spots in that general area counting both thighs. Thanks so much! Regards, Bob in the US (Arizona)

New D7 user, and I'm so thankful I found this video! I am always doing something, I get very hot and sweat a lot. I can't come up with one place that is exempt. 🤔 I am just now placing a new sensor, and I chose to use my upper abdomen. I have used the D7 recommended sites for the last two. I saw those Skin Grips, but I think I am going to try Tegaderm. I have had to use Tegaderm more times than I care to count. I had to put cloth bandaid and Metene self adherent bandage over the sensor, and to be honest, it's a pain! Wish me luck with the tegaderm!

Thanks for the video but just a heads up , I am a type two diabetic taking insulin slow and fast , I have a Dexcom G6 that's completely covered by the British Columbia government that's Canada so maybe people should consider that type two diabetics have this disease and it's very serious in my case , my sister is type one juvenile diabetes .. Someone should do a video on informing people that type one and type two are actually different diseases with the same consequences .. Thanks for the Dexcom video ;). 1:43 itchy sensor site: I always assume that's the body fighting off an infection, coz when I take the sensor off the piercing wound will have slight inflammation & redness. I most often get it when the adhesive is going and an open-air access path to the piercing site has opened up (ie: easy route for any bacteria). If it happens within just a couple days: you may not have cleaned the site sufficiently, or maybe the excess sweat has flushed some hidden bacteria out of the sweat pores. When it happens to me I change the sensor, don't wanna deal with that.

@type one talks, my biggest complaint about Dexcom lately: Lack of phone and watch support. In the G7 they walked back a lot of phones and it really limits a wide range of people. It seems like in 2023 a multi million dollar company wouldn't have such a restrictive list i.e. G7's samsung, google and apple. They won't even update the G6 with newer motorola phones that run the same operating system. Let alone create an API that syncs with diet apps etc. Its just.... silly. You've got a lot of subscribers, I'm sure you've talked to Dexcom... or at min they read your page. Thoughts on this matter?

I tried my upper arm twice and both times the sensor came off within 2.5-4 days. (I work in construction so during the summer, it’s hot, sweaty and exposed) I was recommended from another diabetic friend to try the upper thigh and it has stayed on for over 11 days so far and no signs of pulling up! I have noticed a bit of discrepancies in the numbers though. I’m not sure if it’s just this exact sensor or a site problem. I tried my stomach and it lasted about 1.5 days before coming out and stabbing me constantly for 4 hours

I've been using the upper buttocks/hip area for a couple of years now and my readings are almost always spot on compared to my experience w/abdomen and/or back of arm. T1 - 50 years.

Hello, from the U.S. I appreciate the effort you make in your videos to help diabetics across the globe. I am wondering if you find blue jeans are likely to tear a sensor out of the outer thigh simply because they tend to be snug pants. I'm not talking about skinny jeans but more traditional jeans. I like the leg idea simply because I can use both hands to apply the sensor and transmitter. I like to pinch the skin upwards when inserting the sensor to protect the muscles from penetration. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience. Right now I'm trying the outer upper arm for the first time. For years I've been using my belly.

Pretty new to all this, type II and the results have been fantastic, A1C estimate is 6.2-6.3 and before I was at 7.5 and could not bring it down. Even my Doctor had heard of you. I ordered (from your link) the sample patches, very sensitive to adhesive. The best thing I found are the Skin Tac wipes, I had no idea these existed! Next month I am going on vacation to Europe (Italy and Switzerland!) and I knew I could not bring the bottle on the plane (I learned about the product from you!). Thanks you for doing all you do, it really helps. The skin grip patches arrived and caused zero reaction, not the slightest itch

Wow, I have been diabetic for over a decade and I have never heard of a type 2 with a CGM. I'm not trying to be rude or mean, or dismissive but it's just not something I have heard of or seen. I wouldn't think of a type 2 needing constant glucose readings.

@@AToneForOurSins they are marketing it to t2. Much more money for the manufacturer. What burns me up is the T2 going to the endocrinologist. Makes it’s harder to get an appointment.

Great video. 47 years T1 and I’m checking other areas to use G6. Your suggestions +/- seem to be spot on based on my use of CGM sensors over the past 15 years. I need to vary sites as I find issues if near and underlying scar tissue. Arms are a favorite, but I was using Eversense for a few years and had several arm insertions (They are an implanted sensor in upper arms) with a minor procedure to insert under skin for 3 months at a time, so scar tissue is issue.

I have the Dexcom 7. They really push using the arms. They don't like using the abdomen, even though they list it as an approved site. The arms are very difficult for me as I have had a large weight loss and tons of loose skin, not fat, on these areas. And I've knocked the sensor out once and it hit muscle once, which was painful. Both necessitated getting new sensors, which is where I found out Dexcom doesn't like the abdominal site. However, I've found it's pretty accurate there. I don't get compression lows like with the arm sites. I already have issues with actual nighttime lows, so I don't like having to verify my lows multiple times at night. I do have a fat pad on the abdomen and find it super comfortable. I think I will try my thigh next time, since I do my insulin in my abdomen. Thank you for providing a wide variety of information on your channel. I'm a critical care nurse and I've not found any errors in your info plus I've come away with some new info after every one.

Interesting that different sensors suit different positions. I can't put mine on my upper arm because invariably they fall off! Instead i put them on my outer thigh near - but not too near - my knee. I notice there is a higher reading when I stand and walk than when I sit for a bit. It works better near my knee. Maybe I am too sedentry but it tends to underread if higher up. Like you, I found my stomach less accurate. Thanks for another interesting and enjoyable blog!

Just discovered this video and love it!! Can’t wait to try new sites. I have cystic fibrosis so am very skinny. My problem is, only fat I have is on my stomach, which is being used for insulin pump, and some on back of arms. Unfortunately, I do lay on my arms at night. I wanted to try thighs, but it would have to be the front since I sleep on my sides. Any luck doing it towards the front of your thigh? I toss and turn as an insomniac due to meds so both sides are out. It’s really frustrating and honestly I can’t wait until the much smaller g7 comes out next year.

I am switching from libre to Dexcom G6 because of omnipod 5. Does anyone know why the G6 is not allowed by Dexcom to be worn on the legs for example? Upper leg sounds like the ultimate placement for me. No compression, people can't see it, etc. what could be the reason that regulations don't allow this?
@livith9
@livith9 2 жыл бұрын
I like to have it on my abdomen, since it’s nowhere close to where I have the Omni pod. The Omni pod irritates my skin easily so I can’t have the sensor on any Omni pod place. That only leaves my legs, and it always hurt to have it there, so it doesn’t work. I can basically only have the sensor on the stomach lol. But hey, it works.

I tried your third best site which is above my right breast area fat it on more than 24 hours and it's roughly off between 30 and 40 higher than where it's supposed to be you know I've calibrated several times but doesn't fix you situation and I'm thinking since it's been more than 24 hours roughly about 35 hours maybe I have to replace the sensor

Kinesiology tape is bomb proof. 1-2 strips on your site and the sensor will never get ripped out
