Great video! I would say Wynton Marsalis is definitely good, but also a prominent member of the task force.

Thank you both for this video, along with all of the other amazing content you have created and continue to create! As someone who tends towards insecurity, and fairly new to learning jazz piano, I fall into a lot of these myths a lot. Especially the part about being white, straight edge-- all of the things that feel like they exclude me from playing any kind of decent jazz at all. I'll also add that I'm struggling with the fact that I don't actually feel drawn to EVERY jazz tune or player I hear, even some of the classics. Hopefully that's an unmentioned Myth #8: If you don't enjoy listening to ____[insert jazz artist]____, then you don't belong in jazz. I'm getting by, bit by bit, and both Adam and Peter (or Peter and Adam, whoever would like to grab top billing)... you keep me entertained, educated, and aware that there's always more to strive towards. Keep up the great work!

Hi. I like a lot of the content here. On this topic...there are a few things that stick out. Rather than presenting a response I would prefer a question. Musician’s learn a lot about music along their paths to becoming decent players. With all the theory, cool licks, and snappy reharms that go with them how much of any of this does a musician have to own?

What is the jazz police force?
@rainerschnelle16 жыл бұрын
It is an ironic term for people (mainly musicians but also critics) who think they know what "real" jazz is, that Jazz is defined by rules and laws and who make derogatory or sneering comments about musicians who (in their opinion) violate these laws.

can you be a jazz musician and not improvise??
@BmakinFilm4 ай бұрын
Yes you can quite easily. Think of all the trombone players, or sax players or trumpet players in big bands who do not solo. There are plenty of jazz musicians who just read the charts - they are part players.
