I think facing left vs right makes a difference, with facing right being the better option. Characters in movies deliberately face left to seem villainous, and walking to the left gives a sense of uneasiness. This is also seen in the side-camera example, since facing right gives a sense of progress. Mario levels always go left-to-right. Right is right.

This is super insightful! I've seen a lot of these but never understood the appeal of some- thanks for breaking it down. I always like the straight on or the 45 degree that you use because they seem more personal and that connection is more tangible, but I can totally see how different angles work for streamers who are streaming for gameplay or action over personality.
@SPANISHFOREAGLE4 жыл бұрын
Nano Pierogi thank you. this means a lot

Video is very well made and you definitely deserve more subs on KZbin. However, there was one camera angle you left out. It is starting to become popular as well and that is the camera angle that is further back "behind" the streamer, not even showing the face but the Studio set up (chair, monitors and other webcam) and it shows the streamer talking as if they are on camera facing forward. Now this angle's primary use is only at the very beginning of the live stream or perhaps studio tour if your doing that. Gives the perception that the viewer is behind the player getting things kicking off when the live stream starts. Then the streamer switches angles again to the other angles you mentioned.
@SPANISHFOREAGLE2 жыл бұрын
i think _technically_ bird's eye view can cover that, just from a different angle. i guess since we're covering composition, technically it's the farthest distance from the streamer. but yeah i was debating whether i had another name for this 'behind the streamer' shot and thought maybe another video might cover some more angles!

I literally spent 3 hours trying different camera angle ideas today while playing, seeing how I looked, the background of my gaming area because I worked hard on it, and the location of the boom arm/mic. I had so much trouble seeing what worked well with where the placement of my body was, the area viewed, compared to where I was looking at my 55 in. TV. I get why people use gaming PCs because the webcam right on top looks better but since I'll be gaming on my PS4 I really am having a hard time.
@SPANISHFOREAGLE3 жыл бұрын
haha the struggle is real. i think at a certain point, a lot of people move away from webcams being on their monitors and toss them on tripods or mic arms with adapters. there's so many options. you could also get like a magnifying glass or lens glass to magnify the video but careful which one you use- it might look like a funhouse mirror

I use the Wide Angle - same one I use for vlogging etc (need to get back to that some day LOL), but it works as I have my collection of thing behind me i.e. art, collectables on shelves etc, and my new military beret collection (from when I was "in"), so what you see benind me is... me i.e. the stuff that's who/what I am ;) For streaming I'm still using this angle but may need to re-think it later (after I re-do the PC area - big job!!) and may put the cam elsewhere?? depends on what kind of content they're creating. if playing comp FPS or MOBA for example, a lot of people use a top down shot of their mouse/keyboard. or their cat. cat cams are cool.

What about field of view, what field of view would you say is the best for the frame?
@SPANISHFOREAGLE4 жыл бұрын
tough to answer that one considering i zoom into my face constantly. it depends on what you want to showcase to the audience
@SavageSenzu4 жыл бұрын
@@SPANISHFOREAGLE hmm I mean I really wanna just showcase my face but don’t want it to be too far or too close! The Logitech capture offers three different fields of view so I wasn’t sure which I should use and I’ve looked at a ton of other twitch channels and it’s hard to tell which they use!
@SPANISHFOREAGLE4 жыл бұрын
@@SavageSenzu maybe try to think about how much you're in the frame. look up the rule of thirds for photography for example and experiment with a few test streams or recordings to see what you like and don't like. or browse some streams on youtube/twitch to get a gauge of what's out there and steal that. that's what i did

@SPANISHFOREAGLE6 ай бұрын
big screens can be tough for this reason. maybe have the screen a bit further away and put it on top? or if you’re fancy, look into a teleprompter solution so you have direct eye contact with the camera. elgato just dropped one recently

How about vertical angle or well vertical straight on? What do you think about it?
@SPANISHFOREAGLE3 жыл бұрын
if you mean vertical like how tiktok or IG reels are formatted then yes i'm all for it. the straight-on angle in this format reminds me of CSGO or Valorant events player cameras.. but when i'm tired i look more like Doomguy. my preference as a viewer is minimal camera so i can see the whole HUD for games. i get why certain creators go big on the camera but it's too distracting for me source: guy who zooms in 400% onto face
