Bushcraft Survival Australia

2 жыл бұрын

In this somewhat different episode, Darwin TV joined us for an afternoon on a Darwin 7 day Modules 1 and 2 Bushcraft Survival Course. This was day 5 of the 7 day program.
The videos shows a glimpse of natural navigation, natural shelter construction, water collection using a transpiration bag; water, filtering, paperbark wrapping and the use of flint and steel for fire making.
Thanks to Royce and Fox for putting this together.

This video is presented by Gordon Dedman, founder of Bushcraft Survival Australia (BSA), is an outdoor bushcraft survival school dedicated to teaching genuine and authentic modern and traditional outdoor living skills through carefully designed educational courses.

Thanks, I'm glad you appreciate it. These life skills should be taught properly at school but sadly they are not and we have a society that is technology dependant yet can't tie their own shoes...and it's getting worse. Thanks for watching.

Cheers, I'm glad you appreciate the video and message. We live in a world that is so technology dependant that people don't know what to do without it. It should be balanced with life skills which are sadly are not taught properly at school but should should be. Thanks for watching.

In our technology dependant world, life skills are sadly lacking. It would be great if outdoor skills could be taught "properly" at school, which they are not. Thanks for watching.

Interesting course. I like the combination of module 1 and 2. It's what I do with what I call Basic and Intermediate combined. In the basic bushcraft and survival course the accent is more on bushcraft and in the intermediate the accent is more on survival. The difference being that for basic we work from a base camp they have to build. than they have one day of. The intermediate is a hike where we take a lot of their gear away. People can also just take the basic course but they can't take just the intermediate course unless they already followed a decent basic course, like yours. I also like to take them completely out of their comfort zone and give the courses in a totally different environment they are used to. Of course this involves travel. For me a completely different comfort zone would be Australia but for many South America is. So I focus on that for the time being.

Sounds like you have a good structured program. We are always adapting and tweaking ours. The course changes slightly in the different environments we run it.

It would be good if there was one in the Wide Bay Area. I would even take the scouts along with me….

We run them in each state but dependant on when I'm in the area for military reasons, that's why they are where they are. Coffs Coast is your closest venue which is only 6 hours away which is not a long way by Aussie standards. I have also run several private courses for scouts.. Thanks for watching.

"We take away man-made shelters". But have a tarp to collect leaves in🤦🏻.
@BushcraftSurvivalAustralia
@BushcraftSurvivalAustralia 2 жыл бұрын
It's a learning course where students learn the principles of natural shelter building and other skills .It's not test phase yet where you are limited in what you can use, that comes later. All students had a survival blanket and were allowed to use it to save time collecting and carrying leaves so that more time can be devoted to other learning activities. Thanks for the question.

Natural bush colours are encouraged as it allows you to blend more harmoniously with the environment, be less obtrusive to wildlife, allowing better observation but mainly because loud bright colours are like loud noise and people come to the bush to relax and interact with nature. Thanks for watching.
