Having been to Thailand 4 times, I have visited Bangkok twice although I did avoid Khaosan Road and Floating Market, been to Phuket, and did Phi Phi Islands as day trips from Phuket and Krabi, as well as staying in Phi Phi Don Island for 3 days on my 3rd Thailand trip. Try Karon or Bang Tao. Choose the beaches on the Patong side. Just be aware that Patong is the MOST TOURISTY place in Phuket. I do suggest visiting Krabi too. They have scenic beaches and lagoons.
