I just want to say: I have followed both of your channels for a while and I really appreciate the genuine, sincere connection you both have. Through the screen, you can tell, you are not afraid to be vulnerable to each other and establish an honest friendship. It is very refreshing and rewarding, specially for Kara and Nate, since I feel they open up their hearts to everyone but only a "needle in a haystack" responds to them in the same way. So thank you, for showing how beautiful it can be, to be a true friend.

Same thing happened to me. Your eardrum burst with the pressure of the water and it's VERY painful. I've had a few surgeries to fix the hole in my ear drum. Stay out of dirty water and keep that ear dry.

The Ear situation really got to me- I've had issues with inner ear infections my entire life (and have had to have multiple surgeries as a result)- which also sucked when I taught swim lessons and worked as a lifeguard. One thing that helped me (just to alleviate pain) is hydrogen peroxide- add a few drops to the ear that's affected and just let it sit for 15 minutes or so. But honestly if it continues to be an issue try to start seeing an ENT

Hey! This happened to my husband also, they said it was the pressure of the water & his equilibrium being “rattled” for lack of words. He also had the exact same pressure in an airplane. He too used gum. There was a pressure point the doctor told him about & almost brought instant relieve. It’s a descent vs ascent pressure. They told him to take: Sinus medication Chew gum Avoid alcohol (he failed) lol Take lots of Water water water ! Use an essential oil to open the airways & this allows the brain to tell the body to relax & self center. (It all worked!) His went away after 4 hours 😬

I'm glad that whatever happened to Louis was brief, but it was concerning for sure. I have chronic illness issues and a few ground rules for when I see a doctor about them: -Weird new issues that don't go away on their own. -ANYTHING that doesn't clear up on its own (after 3 lung infections this year I learned not to ignore that one!!). -If I start obsessing over something. I'd say keep monitoring and if things don't clear up in a week or so or the ear pop/pain issue was too out of the ordinary, then Get Thyself to Hospital ASAP. Urgent care wouldn't be terribly well equipped for that.

I am a professional swimmer, so I might know what happened with your ear. When you go to a certain depth of water, there’s a lot of air pressure that can get inside of your ears if you haven’t been in deep water for awhile. I know it’s happened to me a few times where you get excruciating pain where water gets trapped in your ears so I’m not too sure but I’m pretty sure it might be that 😊

@ashleytodd3414

If you have a perforated/ruptured eardrum, even a drop of water getting in can cause extreme pain because it goes directly into the middle ear. Or if you feel immediate relief after ear pain it can be a sign that your eardrum ruptured and now the fluid is able to escape (like how a person feels better after their appendix ruptures). Pain can be avoided by wearing an earplug while swimming/showering. Having a physician (preferably and ENT) look in your ear and determine of there is a rupture and it’s severity would be a good next step. Ruptures can heal on there own, but need to be monitored to make sure the hole is closing (can take up to 18 months). If the hole does not close a patch to your eardrum would need to be surgically done. I am a mom of a hard of hearing little boy who is a frequent visitor with the Ent. Multiple tube surgeries, ear infections, treatment plans, and ruptures.

Louis, the same thing happened to my ear earlier this year! Never had a problem like it when I was younger and swimming all the time. It happened similarly where I got water in my ear swimming sideways or inverted in a swimming pool. The pain lasted for days! I tried everything to dry my ear out; hair dryer, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, q tips, a device that resembles a turkey baster, you name it! All that did was make other parts of my ear sore. It finally dried out on its own after around 4 days, but those 4 days were really rough! It was hard to speak or even eat because the pain. Since then I have stayed upright under water and made sure I get the water out of the ears asap. I hope it didn’t last too long for you!

Louis - perhaps it's decompression sickness from descending / ascending too quickly, especially if you're sideways? If you don't equalize enough while going slowly up or down in the water, it can definitely cause "the bends" and the symptoms sounds like what you experienced. Hopefully it's nothing serious!

Hey Louis, I know a lot about ear pain and I can feel the pain you were in... It is mostly not your ear drum. If it is your ear drum, you would be in less pain and it would take a lot (days) longer. If your ear drum is really damaged, you need to see an ENT doctor and get in fixed, which is an operation and rehabilitation process. My jaw is a bit too much to the back. I am sleeping with a custom made mouth piece that shifts my jaw to the front. This also makes me sleep better and have less apnea and I am not snoring when I have the mouth piece in. And a lot more energy during the day. In both of my ear holes the bone of my jaw is visible. I've been in the hospital for many different ear infection and lately in Thailand, where the hospitals and the service is excellent! 2 months ago the doctor in Thailand showed me the picture of my (very infected) ear hole. It is clear to see the bone and this causes the infections; just 'dirty' water staying in my mid ear, towards my ear drum. It is simply too long too wet there and this makes my ear fight it and causing an infection. Solution: keep your mid ear dry. I have used special ear plugs for swimming, but I think there are too annoying... Drying after wards is the best. Just laying on my side after a swim for about 5 minutes (this feels a lot longer!) and moving my jaw or chewing something, like you did. What also helps is prevention. When I was about 28 I scuba dived a lot in Honduras. There are many liquids to poor into your ear before a dive. For me the best was a homemade mix of olive oil and a little bit of vinegar. Yes, like a salad dressing. This makes your ear oily and acidic. The oil prevents the water to 'touch' your ear skin (with all the little hair) and the acid makes an infection less likely. Anyway, hope all is well now, Louis! Great video! I work as a Commissioning Engineer at Silent Yachts and I was just in Thailand for 4 months for the finalization of the next boat. All the best with your ear, congratulations with the pregnancy and keep doing what y'all are doing!

I've ruptured each ear drum several times - especially when swimming down and around. It sounds like a small pop and a quick coke can letting carbonation out - when out of the water sets in extreme pain and disorientation for a few minutes. Usually heals for me in a few weeks but I hear for some people it doesn't heal or without surgery. If you still hear things a little stuffy or distant it's very likely a pinhole rupture. Good luck. Careful when flying, the damaged ear didn't need to depressurize but my other ear had a lot more trouble since they were out of balance and that made me feel my head was going to explode.

First time viewer from K&N! Sorry to see your ear hurt. I’m not a doc but I’ve had 10 middle ear surgeries. What likely happened is there was a small perforation on your eardrum and at a certain level of pressure the seawater pushed through. Had a hole in mine for a while and anything other than water caused nightmare pain. Hope you get checked out by a quality ENT doc!

Yeah, diving down deep can definitely damage you're hearing, first thing you'll be taught before you scuba dive is to equalize the pressure for your ears. Idk what Nate was talking about lol, good to see you're alright, could've been pretty bad depending on the depth

I am happy you were all able to have such an amazing to together. I sadly understand about swimming and getting the loud pop in the ear. I can't swim that low underwater because of "bad swimmer's ear". No matter what I do I get a load noise in both ears and I can't pop my ears underwater either. Yours might have been because you weren't able to successfully pop your ears. I am glad that you felt better the same day!!! Keep having an amazing time in traveling and life!!! You guys rock!

This was a great video! I love the collabs! I know your pain with the ear first hand. I went cliff jumping many years ago, didn't realize how dangerous an ear problem could be. I actually got turned around in the water, couldn't tell what direction I was going. I was in so much pain, after an exam found out I'd ruptured my ear drum. Super not fun! It happened years later when I was teaching my kiddos to jump off the diving board at our public pool. That was the end of my jumping into water days. Just not worth it, took weeks to heal. Glad your pain didn't last too long, and you were able to get back to fun with friends! :)

Hi there I would get your ear looked at to make sure you don't have an ear infection. Its very possible you ruptured your ear drum with the pressure of the water. Ear infections can become very serious if left untreated.

Maybe get a hopi ear treatment in case you may have crystallised wax that is putting pressure on your ear drum or other inner ear parts. Worth checking- happened to me many years ago and helped relieve any pressure.

My guess for the ear pain is a failure to equalize your middle ear while changing depths in the water. That can also lead to a ruptured eardrum which actually will stop the pain after a bit. The only way to know for sure is to examine your ear with an otoscope. One commenter recommended hydrogen peroxide or alcohol drops in your ear. That will work for an external ear infection but definitely not recommended for a ruptured ear drum.

I'm a new subscriber from Kara and nate. Eamon and Bec. We're overly alluded to in this video. And Kara and Nate mentioned them in their parallel video. They should have been in this video.
