7 Days to Die Tutorial Series for PS4 & XBox One - Base Defense Strategies

Welcome to a tutorial series for new players in 7 Days to Die, the survival horde crafting game. This tutorial is geared for players on consoles, both X Box and PS4, but the tutorials are recorded on the PC Version (Alpha 14). Gameplay and game mechanics are identical at this point, only controls and graphics/performance differ.
In this episode we will be showcasing a variety of base defense strategies and techniques. Feel free to offer your ideas and suggestions in the comments so that new players can learn from your experience.

Yeah just go into creative mode like the guy in the video. This game is so easy when it comes to building that creative mode is for the chaff.

One of my go to defenses were the wedge defense. Having wedge and wedge tips create a steep ramp zombies don't typically attack it and if it's a good 4 blocks tall or higher you normally never need to worry about repairs or fighting if you don't want to. Also you can run up it or jump up it to get in and out no alternative entrance needed. The only problem is we no longer have the wedge and wedge tip corner pieces so that becomes the zombies attack points. I still use aspects of it combined with other strategies for defense but the wedge defenses was in my opinion the best passive defense strategy until they thought it was too good and removed the corner pieces from the console game. I've played on both PC and XboxOne but XboxOne is my primary gaming system especially right now as I don't have a working monitor connected to my PC right now.

I like the poles too, if you did the spikes down, so they're the same level as the lowlevel wall block, and the pole is affixed to the upper block, then you're at a pretty good height to loot zomberts through that gap. I like making lootfarm bunkers. which work well for this, let them damage an outpost. you just need to be loitering there, a little bit BEFORE the hoarde spawns. if you want a ladder in the middle, place those plates as the facing for the ladder so it takes up way less space.

The method that worked the best by far so far for me is to take an existing building(This is in a pve private server, keep that in mind) build a large wall(with overhang ofcourse for the bloody spiders) about 10 blocks from the existing ones. Then, take about 5-10 blocks of no mans land, fill it with barbed wire. Finally, dig a 5 block wide trench all around no man's land. Fill in the 2 block spots that border no mans land aswell as the outside with a reinforced block type. Dig the trench about 5-10 blocks deep too and fill the floor with wooden spikes(reinforce them if you can). But no ladies and gentlemen we aren't done yet. From your base(this is quite difficult to do well and is optional, but I would recommend it) dig towards your trench. Once you're at the trench, take out the row of blocks above the spikes. Place arrowslits horizontally here. This will allow you to loot dead zombies during horde night aswell as take out any strugglers. Not only that, but you can easily repair any damaged spikes. Make sure to have your entry and exit points to this underground looting area solidly reinforced and make a failsafe in the form of a hallway containing campfires that can be lit. If any zombies manage to break through and you have the inside walls of this underground system reinfored, they'll walk over the fires, being heavily damaged in the process. Don't worry about spiders, that's where no mans land comes in. Due to the barbed wire they'll be really really slow. Use this opportunity to pick them off. The inside area allows you to farm food aswell as have enough storage/dig space. The wall is your last line of defense but should be well kept at all times. No man's land is killzone 2, where any and all spiders can be killed off. The trench is killzone 1, your primary line of defense.

ahhh, I'd been toying with uses of barbed wire. I imagine that'd work really well, considering the spikes against a wall always get destroyed first. this should help spread out the wave front. and break the tide. but I also tend to use the ramp-jump. though 2 wide minimum. I like a runway at both ends to help prepare for the leap, and also...I feel like if i leave a lot of empty space in the ramp then it won't get attacked. feng shue of zombie pathfinding. if you give them a path they'll take it. if you block their path they'll muck up things they really don't need to.

I did what you are explaining the floating bass and I had my main floor on the 2nd and 3rd floor but then after another day my whole entire house crumbled

Sometimes the structural integrity can be really weird. Might try with two layers on each floor, that provides more stability sometimes.

Structural integrity only calculates horizontal not vertical. If you go 3 high with wood frames and put a concrete block on top, anything built out from the top of the pillar will be supported only by the concrete. The same goes if you swapped steel for wood blocks.

huh I think they reduced barbed wire a little? though, while back it was 3 made FIFTEEN. I often mod it to 1:5 though. if i can make an entire BLOCK out of 3 pieces of scrap iron, I should be able to make a good bit of WIRE out of foreged iron, huh?
