YASSSSS!!!! So trueeeeeee. And the truth is, if you respect yourself, it will show. Same with respect for others, we should all show up as the best version of ourselves. You can dress your best with ANY budget, it's a matter of how much you care/love/respect yourself. Also, brushing your hair costs NOTHING. The biggest truth bomb of all, LOOKS DO MATTER. As always, Lauren gets it right!!

Thank you for this, Lauren. One of the biggest excuses for sloth I've heard is fashion apathy. People claiming not to care or supposedly being above fashion. You don't have to have the latest Chanel. Just do the bare minimum. Launder your clothes, run a comb through your hair, invest in an iron.

I'd say 75% of my friends are doing the "sloth look." I live in the Pacific Northwest where a lot of people look like they're going camping, even at the symphony. If I wear an outfit, even casual, they always say, "You're so dressed up!" So, I become the inappropriate one in their eyes.

Claire Germain Nail Oh My God, I feeeeel you! I live in a small town in Michigan, and no one caaaares about clothes. So, even if I dress casual chic, people look at me like I'm a weirdo. 😳😳😳

I have been guilty of this, at times. Other times, my sloth was due to depression, which is a whole different issue. Sometimes when I want to give my skin a rest from makeup, I will at least put on a red lipstick - sometimes that's all you need - but you're right, Lauren, there is no excuse to look like a bum

I am so guilty of this. Not because I'm particularly lazy but because I have a chronic pain disorder and I have no idea how to put outfits together out of the million clothes I've collected. Some days it feels like I don't care, comfort is top priority and life isn't worth getting dressed up for lately :/. So this one definitely hits home haha.

I have chronic pain too. The thing that's helped me the most is buying neutral basics. Go through everything you own and get rid of anything you don't wear, things that don't fit, have holes and/or stains, garments that aren't in a flattering colour, etc. Then see what you need. Everything I own mixes and matches together. I keep things simple - one necklace, my wedding rings, and my watch. Leggings are awesome and comfy but you can take it one step up and wear jeggings or a sweater dress with leggings and a cute pair of boots. I also love dresses. They're one piece and you can wear them all year round with a cardigan, jean jacket, leggings, etc. If you get cold easily - FLEECE is your best friend! Hope that helps.
@tired7996 жыл бұрын
Don't let it get to you. Chronic pain is a remarkably good reason to not invest time and effort into your "look." I struggle with chronic illness as well and, as a result, I have days where I go makeupless and in sweatpants... I've found that if you find the right people, they care more about your wellbeing than your clothing. This video is judgemental more than it is helpful, and not reflective of most people.

I have fibromyalgia, so I get this. I have switched recently to mostly dresses and skirts; that has definitely helped me to be more comfortable and confident when I have to face the world. But there are times when the attacks are so bad, I call it a win when I can shower properly and change into fresh pajamas. In those times, when I have no choice but to run an errand, it's sweats, a hoodie, ball cap and sunglasses-forget about a bra!

Another great video, Lauren! I love your honest and straight forward advice. I remember an extremely helpful video you made about investing in a leather jacket and showed several jackets in different price brackets. I'd love to see new similar videos about other classic pieces that require investment. Purses or coats, for example? Thanks for all your help and advice, keep it up! ❤

Hi Lauren, thanks for the great vid. I was never a sloth prior to suffering from PTSD and depression now I am reasonably well again I am trying to rebuild my life and my wardrobe. I got use to hiding under my hat and sunnies but I have now grown to love wearing hats, because I work from home now, I don't do my hair as much, as I have naturally curly hair and I live in the tropics it is so time consuming. I usually only wear a hat when I'm wearing denim shorts or jeans and flats, i don't know how to pair a hat with something more feminine and dressy. Can you share your ideas on how to pair hats with a variety or styles/looks? Thank you

"It's disrespectful to your friends..." *Proceeds to continue bashing "friend".* Not feeling this video. Some people value fashion, some don't. If someone would rather spend time going for a run rather than researching how to look put together, or spend money on rent than new clothing or make up, que sera sera. To each their own. Some of my friends are terrible at fashion, but they are great friends and I would never be embarrassed to be seen with them.

I am guilty of the "sloth" look. I work from home, so I usually look like a mess at home. When I go out no one would know about my sloth home life b/c I pull it together. But for myself and my family I can't go around looking like a hot mess anymore :)

I am the same. Cute shoes aren’t worth foot surgery! Actually, decades of wearing heels is exactly why my feet are such a mess now, that I can’t even wear a cute pair of ballet flats without pain! Luckily, you and I can take advantage of the athleisure trend and wear our sneaks with a dress, or with jeans and a blazer. Just choose another element - like that blazer, or a statement necklace - to elevate your outfit.

So its not necessarily "laziness" when people are dressed down/comfortable. It could be finances and lack there of, it could be what they do for work (maybe it would be inappropriate and unwise to dress too stylish) and I think this video comes across as condescending and judgemental. Unless you've lived a day in others shoes, you don't know why they present themselves the way they do. I don't believe in making someone feel badly about themselves based on their wardrobe.

I honestly lost a little respect for her after this video. I know someone who puts effort in their clothes but still it looks like they didn't put any effort. They like simple and plain clothes and their sense of style is really bad.

Hey Lauren, no offense but I don't like your "experimental" style as much as I used to like your style from 1-2 years ago. Sorry I just don't see the coherent rules you've always taught us while you're wearing a cap with a double fabric skirt plus a striped shirt. Of course it's your looks and your channel but as a request of a faithful subbie, I miss more of your colour, dresses and former feminine rock chick vibe.

I like the idea of 'jus one stylish thing'; but this can be dangerous terretory for some people. :P I am the girl, who would wear a beautiful, blue maxi dress, and pair it with a hot pink cap with a picture of tweety, and a beige pair of trekking sandals. Or a long, feminine army green maxi dress, with a purple fleece, same trekking sandals, and a beige hat. All by choice, and thinking it was super cool. I like to think I am past that period, but you never know. ;)

This perspective is at best unsympathetic, and at worst deeply disrespectful. Your priorities are not universal, and time and energy are not unlimited resources. Approaching the issue with those factors in mind would have made this video far more compelling. As it is, the tips are fine, but the first half of the video is prohibitively close-minded and insulting to the point where you're probably repelling people who could benefit from the very tips you give at the end.
