If you want that wood grain trim on the 125 to be black, light surface scuff it with sandpaper, clean with alcohol or acetone, mask & spray paint it. There are a lot of paints that will bond to plastic/PVC. Just need to read the label to make sure it’s compatible. I spray the back of my tanks black directly to glass & no primer. Never had a problem and if I want to change it, citristrip will take it right off.

Great video and excellent information! Organic potting soil is one of my favorites for sure. You could get a huge bag for a small cost. Keep up the fantastic work! 👍

I got two free ten gallon tanks and cheap used tanks and the $1 per gallon sale helped me too! I also make my own little outdoor ponds. I use soil from my yard and some free river sand in some of my planted tanks.

The sad thing is that expensive gimmicks are the cause of people either leaving the hobby or not even starting. We had more fun back in the day with diy and less food choices.

the fish food one is a good suggestion but you have to make sure to seal it up and keep refilling the small bottles so the food doesnt spoil while sitting. Ive bought bulk food and after a year of sitting it made my water smell gross and foul up so it couldnt have been healthy for the fish to eat. So id suggest a food sealer or freeze drying the bulk. also i found a way around the substrate too, youre a rock guy and thats cool too but im a sandy lady. I got pool filter sand and black blasting sand in 50lb bags for what their 5lb pet store coutnerpart would have costed.

Imo you have to watch it when youre buying "algea wafers" most of them if you look at the ingredients are hardly algea wafers at all! I find that northfin kelp wafers or dr. Bassleers chlorella or sera veggie wafers or repashy foods is MUCH better ingredient wise and the only processed foods i will buy other than that its zucchini ❤

I only buy a few aquarium or pond plants every few years and get them to make more for me. I have also traded plants for other plants and fish at my local fish store. I also use houseplants to help filter my water and do less water changes.

I've been keeping & breeding African cichlids for over 20 years, so having a beautiful planted tank filtration system is not possible. Not that I don't have plant's I'm just limited to types.

That’s what usually keeps me from doing Africans. I’m going to set one up anyway.

I don't want to be that guy but some info needs a disclaimer. Such as the driftwood, some states it's illegal to collect and possesse unless they are a taxidermist.
@uncommonaquatics4 ай бұрын
Is that a sarcastic comment from an episode of the twilight zone? It’s illegal to pick up a piece of wood that’s laying outside and then put it in your house?
@wiscman874 ай бұрын
@uncommonaquatics in wisconsin it is illegal to pick up or possess drift wood unless you are a taxidermist. The DNR here is special to say the least. Only time its not for a normal person to own it is on a mount.
@uncommonaquatics4 ай бұрын
@@wiscman87 I believe you that it is a law but it just seems crazy. it’s illegal to pick up a stick from outside and bring it in your house
@wiscman874 ай бұрын
@uncommonaquatics a stick no, that not illegal it when people here go to water ways and destroy eco systems just for a piece of ancient driftwood. People ruined for aquarium owners. I did like the video though as it did open a lot of possibilities.
