I took your advice earlier this year after buying a '21Triglide. The result was that we decided to keep the trike! I purchased it the day before doing an Iron Butt 1k Saddlesore ride . . . I know now dumb dumb DUMB!! A I swore that whole 24 hrs that I would return the trike because I KNEW my wife would NEVER put up with a ride like I was experiencing . . . because we had been riding a '16 RGU! When I got back, just before returning the trike, I checked utube found your channe and checked l to see what you'd say bout upgrading the suspension. You recommended Pro-Action shocks, who's shop, btw, is only bout 25 miles from me. Long story short, he let me ride his upgraded trike, which caused me to purchase, and we now 6 months and 6k miles later are well pleased and making other little upgrades as well! So . . . A GREAT BIG, BIG THANK YOU for ALL the trike content you put out!!! Your channel is very valuable and PRACTICAL for my wife and I!!

Installed the lift and floorboard extensions as well. Just installed woods 222 cams with HV S&S oil pump along with S&S cam plate and lifters. Have not rode it yet still have the body off of it, removed factory cat and gutted VH trike slip Ons. Looking forward to getting it back together so I can see how all this works out. After riding well over 300,000 miles on twowheeled motorcycles we had to go toa trike due tomy wife;s health issues. She has battled cancer eight times, had twelve surgeries in ten years, maxed out on chemo, tadiation and cyber knife treatments. She is currently on immunotharepy every 28 days and will be for the rest of her life. She now walks out in the garage with the aid of a walker, climbs on our trike and we still ride. We had a 2020 truglide and now a 2021 triglide. I also lowered the psi to 20 on the rear tires and 28 in the front, but I also changed the rear shocks to a pair of Progressive shocks. It now rides a lot better. I also try to hit the pot holes and bumps with the front tire so the rear tires will miss the bumps and give her a smoother ride.

What pressure do you set your air shocks at.
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
It all depends on the weight of the rider, passenger, luggage AND the road conditions. Sometimes, for us, 19 psi was best, other conditions 28 psi was best. Because the best psi changes so frequently, we used to make an onboard compressor kit that allowed the rider to change the psi as they were going down the road and conditions changed. HOWEVER, we gave up on air shocks about 8 years ago. You can see the shocks that we run now at the link below. Kevin great video. New to a trike. Ordering the tank lift kit and cool wings. Passenger complained about the buffeting so bad that we went back and got the Heritage. Went to a trike because my passenger has medical issues so it is hard for her to do long distances anymore. I'm also get up there in years. The 2015 Tri-Glide I bought has a 11' windshield on it. No matter what I do with the vents it is too much for her to ride. In talking with some it sounds like I need to change the windshield? Any advise? Love your videos!!!
@DKCustomProducts8 ай бұрын
Glad you are liking the videos. Sorry to hear about the health challenges, hopefully getting the Tri Glide set up will keep you both in the wind. A really tall Recurve windshield Should get rid of a lot of the buffeting. We run one a lot more than we used to to reduce the buffeting. It measures 15 inches tall and is an LRS brand. There are other good brands out there, I have always been satisfied with the LRS brand. Another thing that can reduce passenger buffeting is to close the lower fairing vents. Of course, this can make the engine run hotter, but if you do a few things to cool it down you should be able to run with the vents closed. All that said, on the Tri Glide (and to a lessor degree on the Freewheeler) those rear fenders catch the wind and can push some of it up along the sides of the passenger. At the bottom of the following link there is information on increasing comfort on Trikes. You may find some useful information in there. www.dkcustomproducts.com/shoptalk/DKUM/ Thank you for commenting! KP

Really like your videos, just bought my first Tri Glide and ordered your tour pack relocation bracket. I’m trying to figure out how the rear axle corners without a differential. Have you ever made a video on this?
@DKCustomProducts2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad you're liking them. Congratulations on your first Tri Glide! And, we appreciate your business, I believe you will like the TP Relo. I believe we have covered the rear differential on the Harley Trikes a little bit, here and there in different videos. BUT, we have not done a video on just the rear differential. I will put links to the videos below where we touched on it. Just a brief piece of info on them...for safety reasons the rear tire with the LEAST traction is the one that gets the power. So if you are going around a corner and the inside tires gets light (not good traction) that is the one that gets the power, so that you do not get any power to the outside tire, which could result in you going to fast around the corner and tipping over. Not saying that there is no way to tip over, it is definitely possible, but it is less likely with the way it is set up for the tire with the least (or no) traction being the one that gets the power. OK we bought those passenger foot pegs same exact ones that you have on your tri-glide and we have a road king with a road zeppelin air ride seat. That seat being just tall enough with our grab rail like you have on yours makes it very difficult for her move the pegs to the foreword position with simply using her feet. I am very interested to know how your wife manages to move the peg from its farthest back state to its forward state with simply her boots? Because it looks like her seat is every bit as thick as our road zeppelin air ride seat….. we even went as far as to make a rope with rings on each end so that we could hook into it and she could pull up on the rope to get the peg and move it forward that way, but it’s a real pain in the butt to pack this rope around with us.
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
Just talked to Mary to make sure I was not missing anything. Also, went back to the video to see if there was anything I said that suggested that we adjust these while riding. She does not adjust these while riding. She generally keeps them in the forward position, which gives her many different foot positions. Every now and then, at a stop, we adjust them to the straight up position for a little different position for her.
@jeffreyengle2762 Жыл бұрын
@@DKCustomProducts perfect reply…… before I purchased these pegs for her, I search the Internet all over the place looking for videos of how to deploy these guys while my wife was on the bike? And I couldn’t get anything at all. What’s really strange is that the little button that is used to lock them in place, there’s no way you’re going to reach that while you’re on the bike or while she’s on the bike I should say so. It Hass to be something that is moved into position before she gets on. The only problem with that is that if they’re all the way forward when I wanna put my feet down, me being the rider, those pegs stick out too far forward and are a serious liability. On your trike, they would never be because you never put your feet on the ground so we basically came to the same conclusion, that if she takes the toe of her boot, and lifts them in the straight up position ( I also keep those tiny adjuster knobs locked so that she can simply just move them around with her toes without have to worry about locking them in place ) when we come to a stop before I put my feet down that they shouldn’t be in the way, and she can simply leave them up and out all the time that she’s on the bike, problem solved. Thanks for getting back to me. On another note I’m considering those tank lift kits and I noticed the price tag a little bit much for me right now, so I’ll have to wait until later as my wife and I are planning a 16 day trip to Arizona for the first two weeks of May. And I like the updated versions they’re a lot nicer looking than the old ones, so I’ll wait until I’ve got change to do that.

My wife and I have rode well over 300,000 miles in 20 years on two wheeled bikes, but due to her health issues we were forced to a trike. She thinks the HD trikes are the most comfortable motorcycles available. We tried Gold wings and Cam Am's, buy the HD handles so much better we fell in love with the handling. I did however change the rear shocks to a pair of Progressive shocks which made the rear of the trike ride much better. I don't think we will change anything else. We are SOLD on the HD trikes.

Do you see more tire wear on the inner and outer sides of the rear tires with lower pressure? We use the Butt Buffer seat pads and are very happy with how it almost eliminates the roughness associated with the stock shocks.
@DKCustomProducts3 жыл бұрын
Very cool, have heard some good things about the Butt Buffers. Last set of rear tires I replaced was at about 43,000 miles. Still had tread (not at wear bars) but I was leaving on a long trip and wanted new rears. They do not wear at the edges more. They do wear in the center, just a tiny bit more...not a lot, maybe 10% more.
@richardrussell5003 жыл бұрын
@@DKCustomProducts under inflated tires cup due to less air pressure, which causes the outer edges to wear faster. over inflated tires bulge, which causes the center to wear faster. thanks for the reply : - )
@DKCustomProducts3 жыл бұрын
@@richardrussell500 Yes, the above are true...but not exclusively. It perplexed me for a moment too. With the tires at 20-21, they are not so underinflated for the weight that the outer edges wear faster, BUT... they do have enough sidewall flex that when doing burn-outs or traveling at higher speeds, it does allow the center of the tire to bulge a little (due to centrifugal force) resulting in a tiny extra bit of wear at the center of the tire.

As a trucker I've had air ride seats for years. Any chance of inventing something like that for the passenger seat of a trike? If anyone is going to do it, it will be you guys. Or, maybe small springs that the seat sits on.

The Air Hawk is also available for passenger seats. Mary does not use on, but I have been using the same one for around 10 years. Very Comfortable!!!

You seem to have ignored the basic fact that the stock suspension is of farmyard quality and comfort. If my small car rode with that level of comfort, I would be returning it to the dealership as "not fit for purpose".

Is your windshield stock as it looks taller than my '16 trike? Will a taller or recurve windshield push the air over my passenger?
@DKCustomProducts3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am running a taller recurve, specifically to block winter wind and push it over myself and my passenger. This makes for better passenger comfort, especially in the colder weather. BUT, it does mean I am looking thru the windshield, not over it...which is fine with me, but it is something to consider. I'm handicap with the use of one arm and have to do everything right arm . One question do you have any info on a auto type clutch where the clutch lever doesn't need pulled in .also do you run a steering stabilizer.
@DKCustomProducts3 жыл бұрын
There are a few options. We have never used them, so cannot review how well they work, but there is info on the web. The first is a fully automatic set up at efmautoclutch.com/ The other one I know of is the rekluse clutch that allows you to stop and start out without a clutch, but still requires use of hand clutch to shift gears. Perhaps combining it with a pingel electronic shift will work well. All Harley Trikes come stock with a steering stabilizer.

I purchased a 2021 TriGlide with 1K miles on it, I made the switch due to my wife not liking the two wheel Ultra Limited leaning in corners, she refuses to ride two wheel, now that I got the Trike and I am hearing all the issues/complaints about rider comfort I am concerned with dialing in the Trike for my wife otherwise she wont ride this either? I wont have many chances to sell her on the comfort so I am watching all the information to make the best choices for comfort otherwise I will be riding solo once again. Are the shocks & lift kit install the best choice for the most comfort for the passenger to enjoy the ride?

I would say that suspension is an important aspect to comfort. No one wants to get jarred when they go over bumps or feel like they are getting whip lash. There are a good amount of things you can do to your Triglide that will help with passenger comfort. Here is a video on all the things Kevin done for Mary to be more comfortable - kzbin.info/www/bejne/foK5inmOi5isjZI In the description below the video above there are links to all the products Kevin goes over that we sell. I will say the FB16 is a must so that she has plenty of foot positions to find the perfect foot placement. Thank you for getting back to me, it is greatly appreciated, I have been watching all the videos Kevin has shown and walked thru with the Trike. I have been rewatching to see if I missed anything knowing that the rider comfort has to come first before the overall custom look of the Trike will be addressed. If I choose to have my HD dealer do the install can the DK product be ordered thru them? Or is it best to order direct through DK?

Thank you for watching our videos. I am glad that you are finding them helpful. Really it would depend on your dealer. We went to HD Tri-Glides when my wife;s brain cancer caused her to have seizures. She has battled cancer eight times, had 12 surgeries and maxed out on chemo, radiation, and cyber knife treatments. She is currently on immunothrapy treatments and will be every 28 days for the rest of her life. The radiation she had in 2011 was too hot and ruin the blood flow to her hips and she had to have a total hip replacement three years ago that did not go well. She has walked with a walker ever since. Two months after that surgery she had brain surgery to remvove some cancer that was casuing her seizures. (she had six places in the brain).This surgery left her like a stroke victom with her left side being weak and not good cotrol of her left leg. We went to trikes because we thought if she had a seizure on our Heritage it might cause an accident injuring both of us and possibly others, we would not want that. We are on our second Tri-Glide and I have upgraded the rear suspension on both. I also run 20psi in the rear tires and had the seat cut down so it would be easier for her to get on. She has to get on side saddle on the driver's seat, swing her right leg over the tank and then I help her up on the passenger seat. I had gel pads installed in both the driver's and the passenger seats. I also had to install a heel shifter because I suffer with gout quite often and I installed foam handle grips because steering a trike flares my arthirits up so bad that I can't sleep at night for all the pain. The Tri-GLides have kept us riding over the years, but I think I'm done with them. No matter what I do and how much money I spend they ride like a dump truck and they are awful to steer. Since my wife is no longer having seizures I'm readly to go back to two wheels. The harsh ride of a Tri-Glide has made me think more about scooters because they have such a smooth ride. It's a long step from a Halrey to a scooter, but we need confort at our age.
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
Man I am so sorry for all that you and your wife have been going through. I am sure that having the Trike let her ride a little longer than she would have been able to on a two wheel bike. What did you upgrade your suspension to? I understand that the steering is different and that definitely takes some getting use to. I couldn't even ride 30 minutes with the stock configuration without my left shoulder hurting and my legs starting feeling cramped up after 1 hour. Here is a video on the comfort triangle that may help you with some of your comfort problems - kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2XTiHqKn5Kceqc HD Trikes, when set up well, can be a lot of fun to ride and great touring platforms. Mary and I rode up to the Arctic Circle and back on ours.

@@DKCustomProducts We 've went over 18,000 miles on HD trikes and it still flares my arthirits up so bad that I can't sleep at night for all the pain in my hands. I installed progressive shocks on the rear of both my trikes which helps out on the highway, but in towns where the streets are rougher, we just can't take the Harley. It feels like it going to jar my teeth out and it's worse for the passenger. I paid $37,000 for my first trike and $37,000 for my current one. You would think for that kind of money that you wouldn't have to "upgrade" anything. They should come readly to ride. I am pretty sure I've purchased my last Harley Davidson.

When you say that you decreased the air on the rear tires to 22 psi - how can you ignore the TPMS monitor alert? It would drive me nuts! Good idea but I worry about tire tread life.

Good question. Most Tri Glides, & all Freewheelers, do not have a TPMS...only the CVO's. Guys with the CVO's that I have spoken to say it comes up when they turn the ignition on...they hit a button and the alert goes away.
