I don’t know about other countries regulators but the Japanese government is very likely to object to a takeover of Seven & i, whose C-stores or konbini, are integral to Japanese daily life. Seven & i’s 21,000 C-stores in Japan provide basic banking and other services that make them essential to small towns. They also provide food and water supplies in emergencies, such as earthquakes.

"Explain to me this convenience store business...what's the economics?" ...Ummm, the fact that customers are in and out in a fraction of the time that they would be in a larger grocery store, or Walmart. Also, the high number of locations available on main routes and at intersections as opposed to driving a distance to the grocery store or Walmart ...You know, CONVENIENCE. This clown trying sound intelligent questioning the obvious.
@phoenix5054
@phoenix5054 23 күн бұрын
It’s an open-ended question though. The other person might interpret the “economic” of it as the future of convenience store. In other places, convenience stores are linked to fintech for the unbanked (cash withdrawals and deposits), hence one could see it possibly as a fintech play for developing countries. So many possibilities here.

Don't forget addictive substances too. Nicotine, alcohol, lottery, coffee, energy drinks, candy, gum, etc. All these simple addictive products create regular customers for convenience stores. Even stores without gas stations attached make good money off addiction-relatd products.

In my area of Florida, we would have no competition because circle k and 7-11 are the major players. Our gas prices would be even higher than they are now due to the fact that we have little or no independent gas stations. This deal is great for investors but bad for the customer.

7 11 in Thailand is better in someways than in US. Prices are competitive to grocery chains, the variety, freshness, quality and availability(in stock) are high. 7 11 Thailand offers delivery at No or very low cost. @TheBooban it's a logistics issue. For resupplying them. They typically have 1 distribution center so it's a matter of how far can a truck go in 1 day to restock x # of locations with unload time at each included. It takes a lot of money, distribution centers and trucks and employees to be national like walmart.
