Gia just often says things without thinking. I rented a wheelchair for Dragcon in 2019 because I have a chronic illness and when I didn’t rent one the year before I couldn’t walk for multiple days after. Anyway I came up to visit Gia and said I wanted to get out of the chair for a picture. She started grilling me about why I was in a wheelchair (i think the exact words I used were “I have a genetic disease where if I get cold or tired my joints swell up and I cant walk!”) she said “oh you have Dragcon Disease so you don’t have to wait in line”. It really bothered me and the kicker was she didnt have any line at that time anyway, so I don’t know who she thought I was skipping in line. It really turned me off her from that point

that is so fucking offensive, i ALSO have a chronic illness that means i can only walk some of the time, or for short lengths and distances of time, sounds like it's possible we might have something similar from what you said although im sure neither of us wants to get too specific. the last time i went to a con and actually walked around the whole time i was also in pain for weeks afterward and these days it wouldnt even be possible for me to walk around a con for even 1/2 a day. but that doesnt mean i can't walk at all, and it doesnt mean i cant stand up! SMH sorry you had that experience with Gia, she's always been one of the most dislikable queens to me and ive watched since s1, but when it's something personal like ignorant comments about disability or gender or race etc that's when it really hits.

Don't say there was no glamour at dragcon if you don't want to get dragged.🤪😁 I love Gias drag art, but she needs some growing up to do. She acts like a 16 year old female who thinks the world revolves around her, and just cause she was on drag race and does drag, suddenly she thinks she's the know all and goddess of fashion, beauty and drag. No mam, no mam. All beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. All fashion is subjective, same with drag. What you find repulsive, others find magnificent. If only you knew. Gia be annoying sometimes & disrespecting any talent she has & maybe what she said about the mask thing she’s stupid in aspects about too & then backtracking. But the real t I don’t think most people can handle. I’d rather see someone trans criticising the government than being used by them. But a part of me thinks she was told to tweet about that since she’s considered the stupid queen. If someone intellectual like Sasha velour posted an hour video going through the history’s government abuse on people & exposed it people may feel differently if more join her. Or someone like shea. People have more loyalty to the government than indigenous people etc.
@MicheleoTuTo2 жыл бұрын
@@msvenuscrane the point is not "she's criticizing the government". Literally every single queen that spoke after the show in some capacity criticized the government in some way, every single one of them. But none of them got this reaction. Why? Because what you say beyond "criticizing the government" is relevant. Are you criticizing it because they are being transphobic? Because they are forcing pro-life laws on women? Because they are supporting systematic racism and poice brutality? Or are you criticizing it because they asked you to put on a mask to protect other people's lives? Do you see the difference? Not sure if anyone remembers, but when she went on the Chilean show “The Switch 2: Drag Race” (w Kandy Ho as well), she nearly got physical with one of the Argentine queens, Sofia Cámara. I don’t know who started it exactly, but it came down to Gia feeling criticized as the only trans queen, or like she was accused of “cheating” at her drag, by being a female in the competition. So she had to “defend her honor”, I guess. A lot of arguing and screaming. And Sofia talks very loudly and high pitched, mixed with Gia’s voice too, it was a lot of screaming and whining! S then Gia got super close to Sofia, and started whipping her hair in Sofia’s face, saying “this is real woman hair! I’m not a man!” Basically, she’s not a disgusting man, like the rest of you queens… etc. Blah blah…and ultimately she & Sofia threw open water bottles at each other, before being separated. The Chilean media actually reported on it, on several talk shows (and radio, blogs, newspapers), saying that isn’t how Chileans or any Latinos need to “conduct” themselves, and Gia’s rude personality may be too over-the-top for their country. Also, unlike American reality TV, if I remember correctly, the host (Karla Constant) & one of the main coaches (Señora Patricia Maldonado!) came to the workroom to say they were “extremely embarrassed” by the fight, and “this is not how we want Chile represented (for/by the LGBTQ community)”. The best part of “The Switch” was the “elimination nomination mirror”, or “espejo de nominación,” where each queen picks who they want going to home that week; they then each had to stand on either side of a large mirror, and calmly tell each other the real tea… about how they feel, why they maybe dislike her, why they’re nominating her, etc. Gia’s attitude in Spanish is soooo funny.

I saw Gia performing a traditional dance at a show once. It was really gorgeous and I loved it. Gia herself is not a nice person. I don't know if it stems from insecurity or just genuine malice, but she has some work to do on her personality before I can get behind her. I met her for a VIP photo and Milk was there. Milk is one of my favorite queens, so I wanted to give her a hug. Gia was pissed off and shouting, "LET'S GOOO!!" Note, that I was going through a bone marrow transplant recovery and I couldn't move very fast. That just genuinely bothered me. I know that they had a lot of people to meet, but I at least wanted a chance to say hi to everyone.

If all you can offer to define your brand is being shady, quick w/ insults and an occasionally impressive runway look, that's kinda boring, but that's Gia Gunn. She's not a dancer, not good at comedy (i.e. stand-up, roasts, even reading mini-challenges), she can't act well or do impersonations, and I've seen her perform 2 lip syncs on Drag Race (the 2nd lip sync was better, but not "WOW" level). Point is, (unless I'm totally mistaken about her lack of performing talents), I would never pay to see one of her shows. And even all this aside, if her claim to fame is just being a villain (even in "reality TV") that shouldn't be something a person takes pride in, it's actually just sad. And she deserved any backlash she received for her unfounded Covid hoax stupidity.

@@carlospointofview so if she makes a transphobic "joke" (as you put it) and a trans person is offended by that, we should ignore it because they are "meaningless words" and this trans person is just "lacking the ability to laugh about themselves", right? I'm allowed to do that because they know me, deeply, and they know my actual thoughts about these serious matters. If you are a public figure, and you say something problematic, you have to realize that we don't know if you are joking or no, so we don't know if that's what you really think, or if it's comedy. The fact that the majority of the people got offended by what miss Gia said means (and this is the very best scenario) that her comedy didn't land, and she came off as offensive. But sure, if you want a world without any kind of respect and empathy for others, where you can say literally anything you want without any consequence because "you were joking", fine.
