A 'cosy' melody in a minor/off key can be incredibly atmospheric. Some several/many moons ago, Shetland Youth Theatre did a production of 'Dracula'. The three 'brides' followed the Count from Transylvania to England, acting as a spectral chorus. During the 'bloofer lady' scenes, when Lucy was beginning to hunt, the brides danced an eerie 'Ring-a-roses' luring out her victim whilst singing "Girls and boys come out to play..." The result was quite effectively chilling.
