Firstly, I really appreciate Andrew's insight, especially as I've got my first gig performing live with ableton coming soon and these tips are fantastic! But also I think it's funny that billie found a drummer whos personality is as stoic as she appears to be most of the time lol. Of course, I haven't heard anything else about Andrew, so I'm definitely gonna check him out. Thanks again for the video!

thanks for these tips!! another way of making sure you don't use more cpu than needed is turn the racks off with the chain selector: map the chain selector to a macro on the instrument rack, map the nested (drum) rack's on/off button to the same macro, make sure to adjust the mapping (click "map" so everything goes green and type in the applicable value), and automate the macro in arrangement view, or (and this is what i do, i like the flexibility) in (dummy) clips in the session view (launchable with any midi controller). if you select "select next scene on launch" in the prefs, the next clip will be waiting for you when you need it.

Can you comment or do a vid on how setup the pads to trigger samples n loops in Ableton ? This video is very helpful as well!
@capybera10 ай бұрын
You can do that with the MIDI mapping function in Ableton. It can be quite as simple as turning on MIDI mapping (command M on Mac), clicking the loop, scene, sound, parameter, etc. with your mouse and then hitting the pad on your MIDI device that you want to trigger it and then exiting MIDI mapping mode.

So do they run their live sets via Arrange view? That's the one thing I'm kinda confused about. If you switch back to session view does that automation still work? And if you stay in Arrange how do you control playback?

man that's awesome. I was just wandering how do you sync your computer to another so if let's say Finneas is playing stuff out of his Mac live? I hope my question make sense. thanks!
@capybera3 ай бұрын
You can create a local network in your computer's network settings, have the other computer join the network, and use global MIDI clock synchronization to link the computers. If using Ableton, you can actually sync multiple computers' sessions so that it's like a live editable session by all linked users and everything happens in real time across all computers. I've only done it a few times many years ago but if you search using those types of words you should find resources.

okay i might be missing something here but I don't understand why would using the aptrigga plugin solve the latency issue? midi or audio the latency is always there.. or not? also if the roundtrip latency is around 8ms is that really an audible flam? I would think that's a latency you could work with. If anyone has experience with this it's appreciated! I only used the spd by itself so far, just getting into using it with Ableton..

AFAIK Mixcraft isn't set up for live performance. It might be possible in Logic.

Does anyone know how to route the Spd-sx to the drum rack in Ableton? Having some trouble..
@florianwienczny88103 жыл бұрын
You want to use some kind of Midi Interface using the Midi Output of your Spd-Sx. I use the midi ports of my audio interface. The interface should appear in your midi settings in ableton and also in the miditrack with your drum rack.
@robbertvanhulzen3 жыл бұрын
trouble is, the spd (and other controllers) send out midi notes that are different from the ones used by default in the drum rack - so you want to change the pitch. use a midi pitch effect to "translate" the pitch from the spd to the required pitch in the ableton drum rack, one for each pad (on separate chains in a midi effect rack). (you could also reprogram the spd to send out different note numbers, but i prefer to stay as close to factory settings as possible - imagine getting ready for a gig and your spd isn't working, you don't want to have to reprogram the one you can borrow or rent for the occasion.)
@jobeaujobeau3 жыл бұрын
You can also edit the notes in the SPD SX kit settings
