I agree with what was said at the end of the video. I think about it this way: V = IR. So, voltage and current are proportional, if current goes up, so does voltage. If the current is limited, then the voltage is limited (for the same resistance). Pretty basic but, Ohm's Law always works and it is a good way to simplify electricity in your mind. Hope this helps.

Mehdi, at around 4:30 you say that the voltage drops to zero when an arc is created through the ionized air. However there must be a low voltage across the arc, depending on the distance. Wen you TIG-weld for example, the steady arc can have 100A and around 20V to 40V (for welding you need POWER, so current without voltage across the arc wouldn't heat up the metal). Also, gas discharge tubes (used in surge protectors) usually have two voltages in the datasheet; the spark voltage and the burning voltage, which often is around 20V-50V; even on surge protectors for 230V outlets. For the rest of the video, you nailed it again. Funny to watch as always. Greetings from Germany! Simon
@ElectroBOOM6 жыл бұрын
+Simon Sven Troschke you are right. My zero is an engineering relative zero of course. Otherwise if there is a true zero, there would be no current.
@user-dj1hy6zc6q6 жыл бұрын
I agree, but 5 volts pretty well approximates 0 volts compared to the original 15,000 volts stored. This stun gun won't have anywhere near 20 to 50 volts in that state since it isn't able to sustain anywhere close to a 100 amp arc. Notice that although he says "zero" he obviously means "close to zero" because that is what the graph he draws shows.

Im curious, I’ve been tinkering around myself. I’ve made a few, but I keep trying to upgrade it. Could you give me some details? Does is use a second transformer or a cascade of diode/cap to ramp the final voltage up? Ok crap! I just realized I have watched many of your youtube tutorials. Small world.

When selecting a sexual partner, there are several factors which influence the odds of successfully reproducing. Too different, and the genes won't work together at all, and you can't even conceive. This is why different species are different species. Too similar, and genes which have negative effects in double doses are more likely to crop up. This is why incest is more likely to produce less healthy offspring. So you want to choose someone who's pretty closely related, so your genes can work together, but not so closely related that your offspring are very likely to get double-doses of bad genes (or genes which only become bad in double doses). So what's optimal? If you set up an experiment with animals where they can choose mates from among a variety of close relatives and very distantly related members of the same species, they tend to zero in on first cousins. Human societies throughout history have had no issues with first cousins marrying. It really only becomes a problem if you have some social norm which requires first cousin marriages, because after a few generations, the actual genetic relationship is much higher than first cousins (where there's a 12.5% chance of getting the same gene from the same ancestor). That's why royal families in Europe famously developed interbreeding problems. Not because they had first cousin marriages, but because they had lots and lots of first cousin marriages, to the point where first cousins became closer to siblings in terms of relatedness. So the upshot is, it's normal to pair off with first cousins, throughout the animal kingdom. It's not normal to do so exclusively for generations running.
@DLBBALL6 жыл бұрын

The reason that manufacturers lie about the voltage of a taser is because the average person doesn't know how tasers work and their brain reverts back to the childish mindset of MOAR IS BETTER.

Yep, its stupid marketing, if they are honest and say its 25 000 volt no one would buy it over the 7 million volt :/
@tobbleboii59886 жыл бұрын
the fun thing in my oppinion is, that as soon as you attach the device to a resistor (body), the electronics in the taser adjust the voltage so that there are roughly about 20 mA of current. leading to the taser having only about 200V after all. but who would buy a 200V taser?

If I have a 250kV stun gun, which outputs at 5A.. what would happen?
@tobbleboii59886 жыл бұрын
@@Sypaka it would output a power of 1250000 wats, and you couldnt draw that from a battery (or else it would start to melt) if i didnt calculate it wrong the battery would have to create a current of 138888 amps (9V / 250000V * 5) if you then attached it to someones body, they would most likely be dead instantly. 300mA can be enough to kill someone
