Truly amazing. I've done lots of passes in Switzerland, Italy and Austria and Stelvio is probably the best one. Grossglockner in Austria is probably my second favourite

With arthritic ankles I did it up and down back in 97. I rode a Honda stx1300 fully loaded for a month long tour of Europe. Hard work😊

Tell me about it: 30 days, 12 countries. It is hard work but I'd do it again. At least you were on a comfy bike unlike me 😂

Started to go via your videos from that long trip on MP3 500. Hats off to you sir, really. These kinds of trips where people take some unusual transportation (eg. here MP3 which is mostly looked as on city drive only). But I have some questions if you know the answers of course :-) One the question below was about "high maintenance" of these machines. I think most of us already heard rumors that especially front end (rest is just scooter) is very expensive and that even most of the dealers are not capable to do properly eg. break fluid replacement thanks to how that system is complicated. So what is your view especially on servicing frontend? If one looks in catalogue some parts are really quite expensive not only compared to motorcycles, but even cars and on bad roads those components can get a lot of beating. Did you need some serious work to be done on frontend during years of ownership and what was the cost? And second question - can you compare that long ride to motorcycle? Like was it more comfortable then motorcycle or was it worse because of placement of engine and you can't keep up with your buddy on quick roads or was all ok? I can imagine perfectly fine that for speeds around 100kph there are no problems at all to keep with anything even with "small" performance of those MP3

When it comes to the maintenance I do most of the stuff myself so it's pretty cheap. The main problem is that there are not many garages around that can fix them properly. Yes you can take them to scooter garages but it's mainly guesswork. 16k miles on the clock and apart from tyres, pads and broken handbrake cable (my fault) no issues. You need to grease front bearings or they can develop a "notch" which would be a fail on mot. Apart from that I think they are pretty cool Long rides: yes it's very comfortable and it's so much more fun than a 2 wheeler bike especially on those elbow shaped roads. Once you master it you can literally lean into the corners like you would do on sports bikes My bike is 500cc and the top speed is 90mph so you can easily keep up with other riders. The tank is very small (I think 12L) so if you ride at that speed you will constantly be doing over 6000 revs and stopping to refuel very often. I've done ove 5000 miles on it during that trip but I avoided motorways whenever it was possible. Also take off speed is pretty impressive. Faster than my brothers 1250ccc GSA (only for the first 20 meters or so but still very impressive) Also you have eci and sports mode. I always ride in sports mode because it's so mochi more responsive and powerful, yes it drink more petrol like that but that doesn't bother me

Maintenance. You can easily replace oil, filters etc. I also grease those bearings twice a year. You can get a grease gun for less than £20 and buy a special nut with a grease gun nipple on top that allows you to do that part.

I've done that coming up on a loaded touring bicycle (1993). On that same trip I witnessed a rider dump his MC by going too slow through a sharp (down hill) curve.

I've seen a few people drop their bikes in those elbow shaped turns. I want to do it again. This time it will be africa twin and currently arranging Romania and Bulgaria . Still think that my MP3 500 is more fun than 2 wheel bikes. Rubbish on motorways trying to catch-up with big boys but on the roads like that it's so much better

Pozdrav.

Redovno servisiranje (možeš sam promeniti ulje, filter itd) i podmazivanje (jednom godišnje - isto možeš sam). Srećno

It's not as bad as it looks. It's actually amazing and the views from the top are worth it.
