“This is not a competition”....”any day on a motorcycle is a great day”. True and attest.

Thanks for watching! Yes, some folks forget that we need to just enjoy life and not worry about the finish so much.

Tip #5 is spot on. At seventeen I spent two weeks on a trip on a 150cc two stroke. One of my most memorable trips ever. This was in the days before cell phones. My parents must have been worried sick, but they never showed it. I appreciate them giving me the opportunity to go off on my own.

cant wait till my ole 82 nighthawk is road worthy to start building up the stamina for the trip I am currently organizing from Indiana to Utah next year. This gives me more confidence in my little 650. Not looking at being a speed demon, just enjoy the ride.

You deserve more subs, man! All great tips. I started riding one year ago. I’ve ridden 5,000 miles this year. Not sure if that’s a lot or a little but I’ve loved it all. I’m getting ready for my first “big trip” in July. 10 days around northern AZ and southern UT in and around national parks. Your video helped me feel better about not being a great motorcycle mechanic yet. That’s something I’ve been worried about. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks so much for the kind comments! I'm new, so hopefully, more people will watch and subscribe. You're exactly the kind of rider that I'm hoping to inspire. So much moto travel content is "epic." It makes people feel like they must be superhuman to travel by bike. Truth is, any day spent on a bike is epic, and people with ordinary skills can do it! Trust me, my skills are very ordinary! If I can do it, anyone can! Good luck on the trip! That is beautiful country.

The way to get ready for BDRs and moto camping trips is to do short trips as shakedowns. Attest for tip 7.

While we are not epic riders, My wife and I have logged more than 300,000Km two up touring but only North America. That being said I could not agree with you more. Your points are excellent and right on the money! Well done. Maybe as a tip #8: Just because you have logged X miles or done X trips solo don't expect to put your significant other on the back and expect the same trip. Do some testing. A couple of us were out on a day trip and about halfway home and my buddies girl was standing on the side of the road bawling because she could not go on. The ladies agreed to play musical motorcycles the rest of the way home. They all agreed that the stock pee pad on a C90 boulevard is absolutely hideous but the gl1800 wing is pretty cushy. He ordered a new seat the next day and upgraded the bike the next year.

Seems like good advice! I have a few years riding experience but work schedule and other commitments have always kept me from taking more than a couple hundred miles away. Hoping to change that this summer and go from central OR to Sacramento, CA for a long weekend.

Lot of nice scenery on that route! Heck even I-5 goes through some pretty country if you have to make time. Good luck on the trip!

Hey man, that's a great list, and I'm guilty of at least the first one: I was recently drooling over the Key West - Prudhoe Bay IBA map, but I still haven't been out on any overnight trips in my own region. Talk about running before you can walk! :)

I'm lucky enough to have been to both those places. Although not on the same trip. I flew to Alaska to do that part of the route. I'm sure there are some great places that are easier to get to that are still worth the ride. Get out there and do it!

If you think you need the perfect bike, you own the wrong bike to begin with. Getting your dream bike can be worth it not just for the trips, but the daily enjoyment. I think we could add to the list travelling with people you don't have common interests with. Any longer trip will cause some tension, when travelling with companions.

Thanks for the watch! I should have been more clear on the bike thing. I think lots of riders think that touring requires a special bike. That the bike people use around town, even if they love it, can't be toured on. As if you must have a bike purpose built for touring. As far as the people you tour with... wait for my next video! It covers the things you should do to have a successful trip!

@@NoAdventureMoto if you start making serious distance, it will matter a bit though, which kind of bike you ride. I have a really comfy bike, and I still would not be able to do iron butt, I think 😁 But actually my point about the perfect bike was, if you think you need another one, you just don't love the current bike enough.

I'm just an unfaithful rider! I have too many loves. Love my GSA, but I'm unfaithful to it when I ride around on my Yamaha 150 scooter in town, that thing is a blast! I'm still lusting after some kind of scrambler.
