Hey Mr. Pants! Fantastic tutorial series you have going on here! Just watched through these first 5 you’ve got up so far and I hope you keep going with it, I’m sure you will. Really excellent clear, concise, easy to understand and up-to-date (post-2202.1) tutorials as well. Like yourself, I’m about 200hrs into UBoat now so I wouldn’t really call myself a beginner anymore (well, relative to some anyway), but I’m always happy to see another UBoat content creator in the community. I haven’t watched “season” 1 or 2 of your UBoat Let’s Play’s yet but I look forward to working through them in the coming days. Just wanted to mention a couple mods I use myself that I highly recommend checking out, for either yourself or any interested. I’ve personally logged anywhere from 100-160hrs (depending on the mod) of in-game use without any issues so I’d call them pretty stable and reliable, at least so far. All are available from the Steam Workshop of course, and all work with 2022.1.xx. Note that one or two of these do have the “Custom Actions” mod required as a dependency I believe. "Custom Actions" and "Authentic Goods" will give an 'out of date' type error when you enable them and attempt to launch UBOAT, but I assure you they work without any issue. TL;DR list of recommended mods: Iron Coffins Realistic Pump Capacity Realistic VIIC Exterior & Camouflage Skins Functional RF Antenna Historical Flags and Identification Enchanted Identification Booklet Authentic Goods Complete Kriegsmarine Grid System TDC Mod (TVh-Re/S3) As a bonus, not really a 'mod' but if you want to make the game 'pop' just a bit visually (actually A LOT), try using the 'ReShade' post-processing overlay (google Reshade, download it, install it for UBOAT with default 'plugins'/options), and try just turning on the "Curves.fx" filter (Settings: Luma, Simplified Catmull-Rom, Contrast: 0.245), and the "LumaSharpen.fx" filter (Sharpening strength: 0.650, everything else default). If you use that & the Realistic VIIC Exterior & Camouflage Skins it significantly enhances the visual details of the boat, especially with the mild sharpening filter. You can literally see every rivet, every dent in the metal, etc., especially when the light hits it right. -------- Naturally, the actual mod descriptions for each individual mod will go into a lot greater details (well, mostly…), but I’ve provided a brief description for each. “Irons Coffins” Adds improved ballast control, improved dive plane control, complete compartmental pressure overall, leak blocking, and a lot more. I *highly* recommend reading the mod description thoroughly before using this to see if it’s for you. This adds quite a bit to the game/sim. Also adds significantly more detailed information to the ballast ‘hover tooltip’ as part of the improved ballast control implemented into this mod. “Realistic Pump Capacity” Modifies the bilge pump to be pretty much identical to what the real world performance numbers were, which were somewhere in the ballpark of 1/3 the speed of what is set in the game. So makes your bilge pump much more realistic, meaning a lot slower, due to less water pumped out per minute. Just a realism thing some might like. “Realistic VIIC Exterior & Camouflage Skins” Fantastic mod. This is a significant re-texture/skin upgrade for the UBoat, adding much more detail to the deck, hull, conning tower, etc. It also includes 2 camouflage skins that some might like. One ideal for the Atlantic operations and the other more for the northern and Arctic waters. The camouflage skins are completely optional on top of the detailed texture re-skins. Again, read the mod description for a lot of details. “Functional RF Antenna” Basically this allows the RF Antenna (the big metal thing with the circle sticking out of the conning tower) to be able to be retracted when a radio operator doesn’t require it to be extended. When you put an officer on the radio and transmit or receive it will extend back up again while needed then retract automatically. Very cool little mod and gets the giant thing out of the way of your UZO and scopes when not needed. And it can’t breach in rough waters if it’s not sticking up in the first place. “Historical Flags and Identification” Adds 100+ time-period *accurate* in-game flags and a flag identification booklet in-game. *WARNING: By default this mod will add the actual and accurate Third Reich flags with swastikas, so if you’re not wanting that for personal, legal, streaming/content creation, etc., reasons then there is an option explained in the mod description on how to disable those flags but add the others the mod does. “Enhanced Identification Book” Replaces the vanilla ship identification book with one that is much more aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion. As stated in the mod description, 2022.1 added ship categories to the identification book finally which this mod did a long time ago so it’s ‘slightly less useful’ now but I still think it’s visually more appealing overall anyway. “Authentic Goods” Basically just an icon replacers for actual German WWII era goods that would have been stocked on the actual boat. Almost verbatim of the mod description lol. Bit of a ‘realism’ thing for those interested. “Complete Kriegsmarine Grid System” “Changes the map grids shape and size to their historical values. Adds missing naval grids to the game map.” Kind of ‘pretties up’ the map and adds more time period realism. *Sadly not compatible with previous saves, apparently.* Requires a new game start to use this mod. “TDC Mod (TVh-Re/S3)” An incredible mod that adds the original torpedo range calculator (well technically later-model, 1941/42+ I believe) to the game/sim. Incredibly well done. Not really for the ‘faint of heart’. Most people either love it or hate it. Can look pretty intimidating at first, and I would *strongly* advise reading the incredibly detailed PDF manual the mod author has written for it, or as Mr. Dancy Pants said, watch the TDC tutorial by “Lite_ly Salted”, and there’s a few others who do tutorials for it as well. The tutorial by “Lite_ly Salted” will absolutely get you going with it, but he doesn’t go into great detail regarding *all* of the TDC functionality, it’s gauges, it’s operations and various scenarios when certain gauge parameters should be observed or utilized, but that was never the gentleman’s intentions anyway. His video title literally contains the words “Quick and Simple”. Also, having said that, his video *is* somewhere between 1-2 years old now so maybe some of that functionality wasn't as dialled in (hah) as it is now. I still recommend reading through the PDF manual to better understand it, or if you’d prefer a video medium, try searching KZbin for “M. Hamacher” and looking up his “Realistic TVre (TDC) Mod for UBOAT” video, where he goes a bit more in depth with all the gauges, but doesn’t show a practical example, if memory serves. Though respectfully, the audio in that video leaves a bit too be desired. I also use Sinking Physics Overhaul as mentioned in the video and it’s a great mod for realism and well, just the visuals. For any interested, as Mr. Dancy Pants mentioned, S.P.O. does disable the ships ‘health bar’ (the green bar) intentionally for ‘realism’. If you want it back (as I prefer), open your in-game console by pressing tilde/backtick ~ (button to the left of the #1 key) and then entering “HPBar true” and pressing enter/return. Then press tilde ~ again to close the console. Keep in mind this does have to be done at least once every time you start up the game. Somehow I missed “Schneller, Schneller”, but I’ll be grabbing that before my next patrol! Truthfully, I would love to see a mod that adds actual voiced lines when changing gears (in German or English based on user language settings) that says something like, “Silent Speed”, or “Screws to 50rpm”, “Flanking Speed”, “Reverse 2” or something. Could even pull some of those lines right from Das Boot I think. I’m looking forward to more of the UBOAT Academy vids, and UBOAT content in general. I’m sure it’s not needed, but I have a few ideas for Academy video topics I would have loved to have been able to find videos about when I needed them. They may very well already be on your docket though. Keep up the great stuff! Anyway, “Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk”, as the kids say. On a completely separate note, I wonder if there’s a length on KZbin comments lol. *Please mind any spelling and/or grammatical errors.

THAT WAS FANTASTIC! Good heavens, thank you so much for that detailed comment. Absolutely wonderful suggestions. I share your desire for the speed voice lines to actually indicate the true speed. Excellent suggestions for the mods, too. You hit the nail on the head with the historical flags. Were I not doing youtube, I'd have them loaded, but youtube and some countries get a bit touchy about anything actually related to mid-century Austrian painters and their fans. I'd absolutely love to hear your suggestions for further Uboat Academy subjects. This was mostly based on some of the least intuitive things that presented a learning curve for me with the game, so there might be issues that someone has run into that I didn't. Season 1 of UBOAT was before the last bug update, so it started with U-96 because U-48 wasn't in the game. Season 2 is U-48 and the beginning of the war. I hope you enjoy those videos, as well as the current season of IL-2 Sturmovic, which is structured the same way I did UBOAT (basically like Star Trek but for WW2).

Being able to play surface ships in this would be absolutely wild, but sadly a totally different game. But something of a historical battleship simulator like this would be a lot of fun.

I guess I will have to try that stopwatch in the TDC mod again. You see, every time I try to bring it up by clicking on it, nothing happens. Do you have to be on a particular screen for it to come up?

I confess, I haven't played UBOAT since the finale of my second season of it last year, but going back through my videos; I was able to pull up the stopwatch on the torpedo launch UI in the periscope. And in the map view in the upper left between the date and the time warp speed. I hope it's still there because it was truly invaluable when plotting shots from the map view. @James Hanlon Yup. It has a steap learning curve, which is why I made a small tutorial series. Definitely worth it if you like WW2 sub movies
