Pure and simple, gloves don't do a great job of keeping your hands warm, particularly if the rest of your body is cold. Between winter cycling, cross country skiing, and ice climbing I've spent a small fortune n gloves over the years and the most expensive gloves still don't keep my hands warm despite ads and reviews that assure me they will.

Castelli Estremo gloves are fantastic. I commute in freezing temps, and these stay warm over my speedy 18 mile bike commute. I tested about 16 gloves until I settled on these.

I have a massive collection of gloves. The sportfull gloves have been working for me in all temperatures in cardiff and the South Wales valleys for a fair few years now. On my second pair after a few crashes and falls. They are amazingly comfortable and dexterous and work in temperatures from 10 - below 0 for me. Best value and most useful gloves I have.

After painful finger rides in the cold, I invested last winter in the Estremo and they have been great for me too. Even thought they have more bulk than some, I've not had a problem using them with the relatively small Di2 gear controls. Plus the warmth and fit is great for me.

A bulky as they seem, they don’t feel as bulky as equally warm gloves that I’ve tried by Gore,, etc. They also have an unmatched flexibility , bend in the right place and don’t compromise hand dexterity on the bike.

The Head gloves from Costco are cheap and available in three different weights. For the same price as one if these options, you can buy a bunch of pairs and throw them in the wash after each ride.

For the really cold rides in Colorado I use those battery warmed gloves from Costco. So far they seem to work extremely well since the heat levels are adjustable.

Been using Pearl Izumi AmFIB toe covers for the last four winters - awesome. They block the ventilation holes on the top/front of the shoe and generally insulate the entire front of the shoe. With these on I can use pretty much any socks at all, although I tend to wear Castelli Quindici merino socks all year round. Winter night rides can get close to 0 deg C - with toe covers, no prob. When temps stay above 20C take the toe covers off. (Australia here - I can't stand the cold i.e. anything below 20!) Still looking for the perfect winter gloves though. This video is a big help

Uniqlo heat tech for me - warm, not too bulky, wicks sweat. More comfy at a fraction of the cost of merino. Tights/overshoes will hide that you aren’t wearing official cycling specific socks, if that bothers you.

Try Dissent 133 multi-layer gloves. I found the Estremo cold - guess I get colder than you but the three layers of dissent 133 gloves worked. And you can take off a pair as you travel. And for colder days, battery warmed gloves are great.

But I love riding too much so always open to try anything that can keep my hands warm when riding. I’ve bought at least 20 pairs of gloves and just bought the £80 Italian ones recommended in this video, I’ll try those gore mitts if these don’t work! Any more recommendations anyone?

Are the Giro Xnetic a reiteration of the Sealskinz waterproof knitted gloves? Even if I love their socks, the gloves are a total failure - you sweat in them, they don't keep your palm and fingers warm in the cold weather ... and they get soaking wet and freezing cold when raining!

Most gloves work OK, but a big annoyance is the gap between the glove and the sleeve. My wrists get cold. I bought the cheapest pair of socks I could find and cut off the ankle part and made myself some wrist gaiters. Works pretty well.

@DEXVD
@DEXVD 3 жыл бұрын
Hi David, not sure if you have experience with them but how would you compare the Giro Ambient gloves to these? Would they be more comparable to the Sportful Fiandre or Castelli Estremo? I have 45NRTH Sturmfist 5s for extreme conditions and the Specialized Trail Thermal but would like something in between. Spend a long time here in Canada in that -5 to -15 range but also spend a long time in that 0 to +7 range (would like a good glove for that range).

They haven't made the glove that will help me I'm afraid. I suffer with Reynaud's Syndrome as well. Have amassed about 15 pairs of gloves. Pretty much the same selection of styles you feature but nothing helps. I have a pair of the battery powered heated gloves but they were next to useless. Far too bulky as well. After a 2 or 3 hour ride in cold weather my hands are just useless appendages on the end of my arms. Totally numb.
