7 One Son-of-a-Gun of a Gun.wmv

This is the second "War Record" SSgt. Barry Sadler produced during the Vietnam War. This one is out of print and has been for many years. It never even made it to eight track or cassette. My dad bought this in "69" after coming home from "Nam". It has been with us ever since. I hope you enjoy it. I still do. I have put a number by the songs in the correct order they would appear if you owned the album.

As child my uncles were away in Vietnam, Army and the Marine Corp's. The AR-15 / M-16 was a very conraversial rifle. Plagued with problems, however the last Uncle that went over, after the bugs were worked out, like S/ Sgt. Barry Sadler praised the rifle. Fast forward, early 1980s, I enlisted into the USMC. The rifle I was issued, and the many that followed later on, I found was worthy of praise...They never jammed on me, the rifles were very accurate, just cleaning it was my chief complaint, but it served me well well into my 2nd enlistment... I will never be without an AR-15. I know what it can do and what it cannot. It will do what I want it to do. Self Preservation / Self Defense. I can even put food on the table with it.

My dad bought this for my brother and I in 1966 and we about wore it out. We new every word to every song. This was my favorite of the entire album.

AR-15s have never been issued to service members it's either a m16 or m4 which is a variant of the AR-15 platform

Sir Boomsalot not at all, ar does not mean assault rifle, m4s are a fully automatic light infantry weapon. Ar 15s are semi automatic civilian designed rifles.

@ChristianConservativ, I confess, I never did see your comment until now. I was looking through my list of previously viewed videos, and realized I had forgotton about this one. I am pleased to say that I do now have a stereo Maggie because my uncle gave me one for Christmas. I also found out it plays mono records which I didn't realize a stereo would do until I received mine. Still I know that there are thirft and antique stores that sell old records, so maybe I'll find a stereo version yet.

@neverbad524 I've experienced a couple stoppages with my M1A. Never had one with an issued M4, though any mechanical device can occasionally fail. Given the substantially superior terminal ballistics of 75gr 5.56mm ammunition vs. 7.62 NATO at 200m and less, the AR is my choice for defense back here in the world. Whatever works best for you, though, brother.

I just heard this song for the first time yesterday on the old Magnavox in my Grandparent's basement. Same record except it's mono, but boy, what a song! The record is my Dad's. I found it out in the garage this past spring and brought it to my grandparent's because it was mono. Dad was pleased when he found out I was able to play it for him. At some point, I'm planning to find a stereo Magnavox which my uncle will restore for me so I'll be challenged to find the stereo version of this record.

@ChristianConservativ There are actually quite a few manufacturers of piston conversions. The original design isn't blowback, though. It's called direct impingement. I don't believe that the piston refit offers enough advantage to justify the weight. The fact is that the Stoner weapon system is a very robust and reliable weapon system, despite what a few gamer kids and gunshop commandos say about it. Again, any mechanical device can fail, but the M4 is good enough for me to bet my life on.

No, it was the fouling of the barrel and gas port. So the government took them back. Then they chrome lined them and with regular maintenance they worked just fine.

Wrong powder, colt being too stuck up to have the bolt and carrier properly chromed by another company who was the only one that could do it right, not chrome plating the bores, no cleaning kits, no instructions are just some of the things. My father was in the army in early 70s I think 70 to 73 and became 7th SF. Said he never had a jam or issue with any AR other than with blanks. One he remembers specifically as it said XM16E1. He would take it into the shower with him when coming in from the field and then clean it properly

Mike Candella I agree with the AK part "they are rugged, durable", however, when I was in the military I saw a guy get the bolt on a 60 blown thru his upper femur/ pelvis. He never realized he was even hit. It was not till he went to stand up and his leg gave out that he realized it. When I worked for the government a drug dealer was in a firefight with cops and agents he had been hit numerous times with 9's and 2 twelve gauges the 3rd one stopped the fight. It was only due to an autopsy that revealed the 3rd 12 severed his spinal cord. So to say you don't need to double tap or triple tap is nonsense. You don't stop firing till the threat stops. There is no such thing as stopping power and knock down power.
