Several of the drivers I had during my WA > AL trip were fantastic, chill and helpful. Only 1 person got kicked off, somewhere on the Kansas/Colorado border, at a small rest stop. She'd been swearing a lot, declaring she was on the wrong bus, causing a ruckus, and seemed to be on the bus just to annoy everyone. Driver pulled in to the rest stop, allowed everyone off, except her, and got local Police to pop by. She tried arguing with the Police, which ended as you'd imagine. Best driver was on the Spokane > Missoula route. Snow covered landscape, iced up roads, mountain passes. He was hilarious, joking about how if we don't make it, it'd be a good anecdote for a funeral, as he proceeds to pass trucks stuck in the median. Also the Trout aquarium/museum in the rest stop in St Regis, MT is worth a visit, if not decidedly weird. (It's on I-90 about an hour north west of Missoula....they also do decent food and the there's a Casino)

As a Greyhound bus driver. These were good points. I'm very very patient with ppl. But once again there are curtain things that is no tolerance or saying "magic words" lol for example a passenger was very rude to me bcuz the line to board was too long. They said "oh and u dont look like u kno how to drive, I DONT FEEL SAFE. I told her to move her a** off the line since she had a "legit safety concern" the next bus comes tmrw. Lol. She was pissed. Oh well. And I specifically turn the rear view mirror towards the bathroom so i can see the culprit who's smoking. And yes, ppl have smoked crack on the bus and got dose of reality after in the back of a state trooper car. At night ppl are very unaware when they are using their phone light or those notification lights are blinking. They point it straight up to the front, they don't realize that it cause a glare and I can not see. It only takes a second to hit something and kill 50 ppl. This stuff is serious and I do not take those things lightly. As far as talking jus keep it low and dont bother ppl next to u. I have had a time when while boarding the whole line was angry bcuz they waited 2 hours for a driver. My supervisor called me out of my bed at 2 in the am and I came to save the day. I loaded the bus bcuz I wasn't gonna let it bother me but then one lady said something to me and it was like I had an apiffany, like "why am I here." So I got my stuff and left and now they had to wait for someone else. I am very easy goin but this job can be very stressful they dont see u as a human but as Greyhound. Ppl do not understand what is goin on but the only thing in their minds that makes sense from a passenger perspective when it comes to delays.

I was travelling on a private minibus in the UK (it was chartered by my employer), it was late at night and a colleague had his phone on full brightness and the phone literally lit his face up entirely. I am not sure if your phone's screen lighting up your face in the dead of night is harmful for your eyes but In my opinion, it is dangerous for your health. Sometimes I don't know how people can cope.

The last time I took Greyhound, the driver was a former DC cop who had been shot in the leg and retired from the force. He reminded me of R. Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket. He was at least 6'8" and had arms like Arnold Schwarzenegger. He walked with a limp, but for some reason that just made him seem tougher. NOBODY got out of line on that trip. Nice, quiet ride.

Like you, I travel a LOT on Greyhound - twice a year from NW Arkansas to Phoenix and back. And also like you, I have learned many things about travelling safely and just using common sense on my trips. Basically, I simply get on the bus, shut my word-hole, and sit back, relax, and watch the show (and there's ALWAYS a show to watch!). I've seen quite a few people get booted from the bus over the years - 98% of the time, it was for smoking in the bathroom. Other than that, it was for being unnecessarily loud on overnight portions of the trip.

Some of these tips are pretty much common sense, then again common sense isn't very common now. I've been riding Greyhound off and on for about 12 years & I've seen only one person get kicked off the bus, an elderly lady in Richmond, Virginia for arguing w/a driver who was actually starting an overtime shift because of a driver shortage I believe
@charlesrobbins2208
@charlesrobbins2208 3 жыл бұрын
They can't work overtime. Impossible to do. They have a limit, I believe it is 10 hours in a 24 hours period. Okay, maybe 2 hours of overtime, it's not a huge sacrifice or anything. Now, working 12 hours a day, six days a week, as I used to do? That would be an excuse for a bad attitude ☺️. These drivers are just unhappy people who want to share their misery with the world. No excuse for allowing them to be allowed to do as they wish to paying customers. This nation has turned into a population of mind numbingly ignorant and programmed people who blindly follow even the most idiotic orders. We have failed that great experiment known as freedom. We seem to enjoy being dominated by Napoleon complex affected characters.

Just had a fight with my bus driver What happened was I got my coffee and chips and obviously I cant drink or eat without my mask off…. He literally came near me and told me put your mask on you stupid or I will throw you out of the bus ….I was shocked and at the same time quickly did put my mask on ….Then I replied to him that I cannot drink or eat having my mask on how on earth will someone have their mask on 24 hours….I was angry and raised my voice against him but then something in me told me to keep quiet otherwise I will be off the bus spoiling the whole day and having difficulty figuring out the next steps…..Masks are no doubt required and should be kept on but here the driver was at fault…..Its really hard to digest the fact that even if you are not wrong you can be kicked out of the bus ……I put my meditation music on calmed myself up and reached home safely saying goodnight to him….Sometimes its hard to deal with rude drivers but if you dont want chaos and for a min if you think logically “anger” leads to worst things……

Really? I am a laid back, take everything as it comes and just relax, kind of guy. These drivers are jerks, most of them, looking for a fight. They genuinely enjoy that little bit of being God that a driver has for that short time they sit in that seat. Greyhound should give them psychological evaluations as well as proficiency exams. There are a lot of very small individuals operating the bus s and they truly are psychologically impaired.

They are abusive. They treat passengers like prisoners in a portable prison. Thou shalt not speak above a whisper in the presence of your master... Thou shalt not refuse to follow even the most ridiculous command given by your god in he driver's seat. We saw a drunk guy get kicked off and we had a gentleman that was accused of stealing a womens purse in the bus station get kicked off the bus. We thought our drivers were very courteous to my wife, daughter and I. Since my daughter was under age the driver usually made her sit with my wife or the driver had her sit behind them. We felt very safe. Act like a reasonable adult and you will not have too many problems. We met alot of nice people on the buses we rode and also alot of nice drivers. While it's not in regard to getting kicked off, a travel plaza I frequent in my area is also a Greyhound rest stop so it's interesting to watch everyone mingle, even on occasion the drivers will say a big friendly hello myself not being a passenger as I walk in or out and I respond back thinking how do they do what they do and smile, others I'll see with a scowl. One day I was there sitting in my car as a bus pulled out, a passenger comes running out the door of the Pilot Travel Plaza flailing his arms up and down screaming "STOP STOP!!!" fortunately the driver saw him and stopped the bus and let him on much to my surprise. Listen to those announcements, I have traveled 3 500 mile trips with them in the past, but it's been over a decade, I went in at those rest stops, took care of business, a snack and stayed by the bus till it was time to go, no way was I gonna get left behind and wait hours!

Hey my brother Tim. I travel everywhere as well by bus. Now mostly it is just for work but yes. I have taken greyhound I am an Amtrak guy myself but i do love the bus. Even on your Tranzit buses around the city I have ridden 12:44 the bus so much I got to know a lot of things. Bus riding is just something every day that is so different. Even in the commuting process I actually have talked with some drivers about this cause I have so much respect for the driver. My respect is over 100 percent cause you never know know what in my school years too of riding the bus. Some people ask me if I have ever gotten yelled at by the bus driver. That is just not something that has ever happened with me. Actually all the drivers from my school days really loved me from pree school all the way up to high school. Now I have heard bus drivers yelling at people on the bus in school more so in the 1980’s. But they really had to tell the kids like it was. Now days I don’t know on a school bus how much drivers can do that but I am sure they still have to correct. Ummmm as far as now in my working days and commuting, I actually get to know the drivers just by getting on the bus. You know the ones that are just talkers and other ones that are quiet. I usually just wait to see what driver it is that i have that day. Some of them just want to get you where you need to go and others they do but they will talk your ear off hahahaha. No driver has told me not to talk with them I just have learned to wait to see what kind of driver I have on that rout. Then,,, the other thing I don’t do is even drivers say it is fine but in respects to them I never talk with them while they are backing up the bus. Many drivers know that they can multitask but that is a time where drivers are trying to get the bus in reverse and getting it out so they can get it back on the road from a tight situation. Anyways. I have never had a driver tell me not to talk with them during this time, but riding the bus I figured that out that that is not the time to talk with them. They in the end actually appriciate that even though they dont’ say anything. They always tell me that they appriciate that. I mean I could bee in a conversation about something telling the driver about what I do for work and then all of a sudden they have to backup for what ever reason. I stop when ever i hear the backup beeper come on. Also i have told the drivers how i feel about getting to know them. I mean you just need to get to know what ever driver it is and some will even start a conversation with you when you get on the bus then you know it is perfectly fine to talk to them. I always have drivers ask though. “How is your day going so far.” “Are you ready to get to work?” “What do you do for work.” Stuff like that but I usually try and let the driver start the conversation. I mean this is common sense as a good bus rider. I think having ridden the bus for a long time you should kind of pick things up on your own and common sense hahahaha. Anyways I have found this kind of funny that people want to know if I have been yelled at or called attention from a driver back in school or even now when I am commuting. I think some people that the highlight of their day to see if they can get the driver to call their attention. That is not what you want to do. I mean being a blind individual myself yes. I have had drivers hold me back from maybe a situation but that is their job. I might bee accidentally missing the bus door and they will direct me over to the right ay. This is just the safety of getting on the bus it shows that the driver cares about your safety. I have even told drivers that i love their authority they have on that bus and over the riders. I totally look up to that. And riding the bus is a time to chill and relax on the way to and from work. Nice way to start and end your day. they are dealing with. One thing people have asked even looking back

Growing up I took Greyhound several times a year to visit my dad who lived in a small town. Once the driver stopped in the country, got up and walked to the back of the bus and told this guy to get his stuff and get off. Once they guy was off and we took off, the driver told us he was smoking a joint. This was decades ago when that was a felony in all 50 states. That guy was very stupid.

Reason#8 No reason. The sad reality is that there are people who got kicked off the bus for no reason. They kicked people off the bus all because the driver is in the bad mood and blamed you for the dumbest reason as possible.

However, if the rest of the passengers can be my witnesses, confirming that I didn't do anything wrong at all, I will sue the heck out of that driver and he/she would be wishing they never said those "magic" words to me, "Sir, I want you off the bus now!" If they've got temper issues, they should be driving trucks, not buses. If anything goes, I'd be willing to arrange that "change of jobs" for them. Of course, not me personally, but a judge will do that. They better be careful when they choose whom to say those "magic" words to because I will make sure that "magic" of theirs backfires right at them.

Why can't just sit down look at their phone and be quiet. I bring my knitting and get very involved with a pattern and really do not want to talk to people. I do not blame the driver to get rid of people who are problems. I am sure the good passengers agree and are happy

I think it would be an extreme case if the driver booted a passenger off the bus on the side of a rural highway for just talking too loud. That driver might be legally liable if something were to happen to the disembarked passenger.
