Fashion is for kids and rookies. Style is for seasoned gentlemen. Sneakers are a fashion statement. Proper dress shoes are an expression of style. Cary Grant, at times, could have used a pair of sneakers. Would he have worn them? Only on the tennis court. Cheers

My personal taste: no white sneakers. Not only are they high-maintenance and low applicability (basically only on beige suits), they are also the most sportiest and attract the most attention, the opposite what you want to achieve. A pair of navy, brown, black or dark grey can blend in with the suit, while not disrupting the overall look.

I cannot see what’s the attractive of pairing sneakers with a suit. It looks just childish and not very appealing because the proportions and silhouette of the suit is broken by a chunky piece of rubber.

If you still have an ounce of self-respect, you will never wear sneakers with a suit. Calling sneakers shoes is like calling fast food nutritious food. You have style or you don't. Fashion trends or superior individuality with a mass product like sneakers are far from a gentleman's concern.

An important part of the issue is that shoes are, traditionally, the most expensive items in a gentleman's wardrobe. When a pair of sneakers cost between $50-150 and a pair of real, leather soled quality dress shoes ring up at $300-800, economics are a factor. Let's face it. Most guys are kid raising, blue collar men who can't even afford a suit to begin with.
@danelisslow32697 ай бұрын
If you're a blue collar guy who doesn't wear suits very often, you'd be better off just getting some $50 dress shoes from target since you won't be wearing them often.

A hard line must be drawn in the sand and this is it. No, suits with sneakers. You just end up looking like you changed your mind half-way through dressing yourself and are too lazy to start-over.
@markanstrom29817 ай бұрын
As a fashion choice? No. A gentleman building a wardrobe from scratch will buy dress shoes before he buys a suit, simply because the dress shoes are more useful. A good pair of dress shoes can be worn with outfits ranging from casual to formal, but the same cannot be said of a suit. Since you already own a pair of dress shoes, why would you not wear them when you buy a suit? It's forgivable if you're a 16 year old teenager whose parents buy all their clothes, but we're all grown men here. There are far more cases where *black* sneakers are acceptable. I sing with a large city symphony choir. Black suits are part of our concert attire, and many of us wear sneakers onstage to avoid back pain and passing out from standing under hot lights. Nobody sees our feet except for when we're coming on or offstage, so stage black sneakers are acceptable. Many of the stage crew also wear stage black sneakers with black suits. But even then, if you have a pair of dress shoes that are as comfortable as a pair of sneakers, those would be far preferable.

Not happening with me. I have sneakers with full wingtip and captoe brougue uppers, and they aren't going with my suits. They are for adding style to my athleisurewear. If there is a white rubber sneaker sole, it's not going to happen. Suit = leather sole, and rarely loafers.
