Great video! That cleared up a few things for me. It also opened my eyes to some new things. The D710G has so many features it's hard to learn and remember them all if you don't use it every day. I've actually bought a power supply so that I could bring the radio indoors to learn the features, and program it. Videos like this one are especially helpful. Thanks so much!!

Glad it was helpful. I also use the video to quickly remind me of the modes as the manual is quite dense. This radio does so many things. I was really tempted to get a second radio for indoor use as I love it's scanning features.

Great video, thanks for posting it. In group scan, is there a way to tune directly to one of the 10 group names, without having to cycle through all channels? Example. My radio is tuned to channel 500 (in my case channels 500-550 have local repeaters and the group is called LOCAL), and I want to tune to channel 900 (in my case channels 900 to 908 contain weather channels and the group is called WEATHER), can I tune to WEATHER without having to cycle through 400 channels to get to the WEATHER group starting on channel 900?

Thanks for the compliment. There may be two different ways to achieve that: First being, separate them into different memory groups and quickly jump between the groups, or secondly use the microphone to key in the channel number if you know it, whilst in memory mode.

@@GadgeteerZA found another option. A programmable key on the mic can be set to "group up". When depressed it will jump to the next group of channels.

in your B screen or the right side. while your doing all this extra stuff is it automatically bursting the APRS location when it appears to go busy and is transmitting? or is it receiving when it says busy? It looks like its doing 2 different things.

Correct yes right side is set for APRS and I have broadcast activated so it broadcasts the APRS location. I’m using the auto algorithm so it times it according to speed and turns etc.

On Visual Scan, is there a way to QSY to an observed signal?

Unfortunately not just with the microphone as it is doing a constant visual scan without pausing on a busy channel. But what could be tried is: 1. Rotate the Tuning control 2. The frequency shown changes as well as the cursor, so you could align the cursor with the activity to see what frequency it is on. 3. Press SET to use that at the new centre frequency. Step 3 may actually not even be necessary, as that is really just to adjust the centre scanning frequency.
