I appreciate your valuable content. I created a competency list (not quite a job description) for the previously non-existent role above me which is documented due to creating roles in my role/department for those I may supervise (because we needed to hire someone) and just adding the new position on. I have good relationships with boss and his supervisor but do have a struggle mixing business focus and having a personal knowledge/conversations with them. Due to a merger my boss's supervisor is new to the role (but his experience well warrants his position). I already was involved with a committee with the new boss's supervisor before he changed positions in our company. I am also working on a certification covering competencies which our company currently needs to contract for. I am subscribe to your KZbin content and appreciate the work you put into it. Thank you.

There are so many things wrong with the corporate world that simply infuriates me; why if someone is working hard and is competent should be deprived of a promotion because it was not in their nature to be overly social and making connections. Or that the next person who is more charming should get promoted ahead of them. Plus, if they don't see your value, move on. There shouldn't be games to play to get ahead. These are all so stressful; what if I genuinely don't like my higher up manager because I don't believe in their morals and ethics based on things I've seen from them.

@samirafriis - In an ideal world managers would spend a lot more time understanding exactly how good their staff are. Working hard and doing a good job is not enough. The ability to communicate well and in many different situation is also a very improtant set of skills, particularly as you get more senior. I learnt this the hard way. It is a game that is part of getting promoted unfortunately. J

As an introvert, I am totally with you! I hate kissing a...s, and I can see the fake attitude of my boss from miles away.

Im a hard worker, but im introverted and not very social, so i have never been promoted. Honestly, I find my managers to be annoying . I just talk business thats it.
@Enhancetraining5 ай бұрын
@Ohv111 Thanks for your comment. I personally don't think being introverted or not being particulalry social is a barrier to being promoted. I suspect that your managers pick up on the fact that you find them annoying which is definitely going to damange promotion chances. What do your managers do that you admire, like, feel is useful? Thinking about the positives of your managers might help you change their perception of you. J

This video explains why so many people are quitting the corporate world and taking up side gigs, entrepreneurship or become self employed. Too much bullshit in the typical corporation

It would be great if you didn't have to "play the game" as such and just got recognised for what you did and how you did it. Unfortunately the competition is so fierce that this is no longer enough...

My manager was actually sabotaging my career because of racial bias, with me being the only black senior staff, so I had to leave and build my managerial portfolio myself. I have been getting a number of interviews for other positions, but no other successful as yet. This company hoodwinked me with salary, so it is now very undesirable to continue working here.

@imaginecaribbean5002 Really a bad situation to find yourself in. They have spent time, effort and cash to hire you in the first place and then to undermine you is pretty short sighted. Hope you find a better place to work quickly.

Unfortunately, 4 minutes into the video & you lost me. Game is different than that .. politics, likes & dislikes, stealing credit are some of the key factors in today’s corporate culture .. it ain’t no more about hard vs smart work, some of the commonly promoted individuals nowadays don’t even bother finishing the simplest task.
@Enhancetraining3 ай бұрын
@aceofspades1542 There are lots of different working cultures and I agree that in a number of them, who you know and underhand tactics do work and will get you promoted. I know from experience that people who use these tactics will fall foul of them. Better to be good at your job, know how to market yourself and build good relationships - these are timeless ways to honestly get promoted and will always work. J
