Every single time! Each RPG eventually goes crazy. Spawning monsters in places and missions that shouldn't be there. Like fallout 3 and leading the "adult" from little lamplight. Waiting to long to do this you could equip him with winterized power armor and vengeance (the legendary gatlin gun) and he will still die against the super mutants and or albino Scorpions on the way. Or in Skyrim when you accidentally hit one of the guild members in the companions and the main members keep spawning on you everywhere you go.

In kingdom come I did that. But then when I came back for quest I got yelled at for abondoning my post and such. And there may have been a few people who died becouse I didnt do their quest line right away. I guess they were not kidding when they said it was urgent. Who knew?

4:45 What a curious little plant. On the up side, one of the games featured provides a way around one of the problems listed. LotRO lets you make your characters *appear* to be wearing just about anything anyone on the account can get or create, so your lvl 5 Rune-keeper can walk into Bree *apparently* wearing lvl 51+ crafted armour and a fabulous hat. On the down side, I've got bad news about Amdir the Ranger. Well, mostly bad news. Almost all bad news. He's not feeling sick any more. The rest of it is bad news.

I know that in pathfinder, the vast majority of people are approximately between level 1-5 and they are normally in NPC specific classes like commoner or expert. So, it wouldn’t be too weird for local challenges to be insurmountable to the average person.

First time I played WoW, I decided to explore. As a night elf (how noob was I, lol), instead of taking the boat, I circled all the way around the Northern side of the continent. I managed to evade late game enemies, and actually worked my way down about half way on the Eastern side of the continent when a max level player saw me. He asked how the hell I got there (I was only level 9 or 10), and I just said I walked and swam. He was truly impressed, and after escorting me to a transport where I could safely return to my proper area, he gifted me 100 gold, and said if I rank up to max level, his guild would love to have someone as crazy as me, lol! I never did play long enough to reach max level, but I'll never forget that adventure!

Well if it's an RPG worth its salt, there's probably a 30 minute to 2 hour long character customization section. Guys, I need my character to look perfect before hiding that character in increasingly elaborate armor sets. Or in the case of Dark Souls, will likely look like decade old beef jerky for most of the game

In games with both food (likely paired with the ability to cook) and alchemical items (the aforementioned potions), it then becomes "Why am I burdened down with 500 bits of random salad ingredients?"...that's why I'm happy that my hoarding tendencies allow me to recognize a better deal. Why carry around a wheel of cheese that heals 5 HP when two potions weigh the same and yield more healing? Of course, why use any of them when not being hit works just as well?

Before long, you're fighting enemies that have some of the best armor in the game and in addition to this being a fantastic source of income, it also means that having that income means a lot less. I mean why save up all that cash when there's nothing worth buying because everything you got by looting your dead enemies is better than what's in the shop?

(Looking at you, Bethesda!) "Maybe this time I'll use heavy armour and a warhammer." *12 hours later* "Welp. Looks like I'm back to using light armour, shadows and an overpowered bow again..." And of course, that's only once we get past character customisation. That alone can take several hours. Then there's "Oh, this looks good! I'll spend all 1000 of my gold on it!" shortly followed by an enemy/chest having the same, or better gear. Shortly followed, yet again, by never buying anything except for health/mana pots, and maybe weapon/armour repair kits, only to hoard them all until you've got 999 of each and the game cries at you for hoarding so much.

Game designers rarely make good economists, which is kind of what's required for a good economy in a game, items or currency alike. The cursed as fuck standard Bethesda item economy being a prominent example with no redeeming traits. I've really enjoyed some Bethesda games during their time, but they all have absolutely atrocious economies that make little to no sense whatsoever. You need someone who is able to fairly faithfully predict trends against a complex background, and can provide sensible solutions to problems that can't be fixed by adjusting a few values.

Yeah, like who stops doing that just because you've played a bit, you always need crafting mats not to mention some cash is handy. Does this include hoarding potions until you're too high-level for them to make any real difference, so that you have to create a new lowbie character just to use them all up?

@1misanthropist First time I played Skyrim (or pretty much any rpg with an inventory system like it) I spent the entire game over encumbered moving at that ridiculously slow speed. When I was about to fight Alduin I spent literally an hour dropping tons of rubbish so I could finally move faster then a slow walk. I think my total inventory weight was close to a million, if not more.

In all honesty, the melee combat in Skyrim is pretty ass. I never come out of a melee scuffle in that game feeling satisfied. At least with stealth archer there's always the smug satisfaction of a well-placed shot, especially one from sniper-distance.

There should be an option to transfer the stats or the look of an item to an other item in every game. I liked the the way it was in SWToR where u can Extrakt the stats from the Armor and put in other things. My Sith Tank always was dressed in a nice white Robe.

I'm lucky enough to be a worldbuilder and conlanger as well as a RPG nerd. In Skyrim, I made an elf and literally named her the word for elf in my elven language. It's Arrautharr, which doesn't particularly "go" with Skyrim, but looks cool in the stats screen.

Me and my mom had so much fun making up stories about her, and when we started to play the fourth (before our 360 died), we made a muscly green man with his momma's bug eyes, pigtails, Kardashian lips in neon pink, and a fascination with lingerie and club dresses. His name was Thudilliam because, according to DEEP LORE, his mom Jethrina dropped him as she was naming him William. He was also the son of Professor Genki, who was a pink cat man mascot (but not for the purposes of DEEP LORE) and inherited darker pink, as well as cat-like pupil slits. And he spoke like a southern belle version of Mickey Mouse. Yeah, Thudilliam fits. Saints Row isn't necessarily an RPG, but "Martha" reminded me of it because I had an pedestrian model I made up stories about named Martha. She was perfectly nice in-game, but in DEEP LORE she was an asshole.

Male, Elf, Cleric? Mordred Human, Sorcerer? Mordred Dark Elf, Rogue? Mordred Naming characters is easy, as long as it is not an MMO. EVERY SINGLE character is named Mordred, but female characters get a different name. Its why my character lists in stories is 3 max, with random name generators filling in throwaway characters.

I'd definitely play an "Adventurer's RPG" Yeah I do notice that problem with most RPGs. I'd imagine it'll be a game full of side-quests while the actual hero/heroes deals with the main quest. Perhaps at times you have to deal with the heroes and their quest. Or you could level up and eventually join the heroes at the end of game. Most the times I doubt the Chosen One, Hero etc has time to deal with someone who has lost their ring, or find a special herb to help with someone's research...AND still save the world.

That's one of the things that annoys me about some rpg's, the best armour doesn't look that good. And it's unlikely to find a fullset that is BiS so you're mix and matching and you end up looking like you got dressed in the dark and have zero fashion sense.

Yeah, had that in Mass Effect, the lighting in the creator turned out to be strange, the character always looked different during play. Managed to make the char ok after 3 tries. Then in the second game, the uploaded character from the first game looked wrong again, and had to be customized...

What's the point, you'll cover up that bad choice of plumage with what looks like a severed peacock tail on a metal helmet anyway, or replace that ugly set of fins with samurai things. Or maybe you'll cover up that half a face plate with warlord armor that has way too many eyes. Or that weird flower will be hidden by a cool horned helm that has a jaw on for some reason. @@maxvel0city906 I would probably be the death of that plant then ... the way i play RPG games is that i return to my home ones every half of the world trip and then foget to do half of the thing before leaving again :P Also that is why i always need to take my food souce with me when in a game where i need to eat :) Like in Subnautica i just build myself a garden inside a sub just to have food on the go hehe

It seems I can never leave a starting town, settlment or castle in an RPG without somebody demanding I go down into a dark, forbidding cellar and kill a bunch of rats. Apparently it's meant to teach me tactics or something. That knowledge of beating up tiny rodents in a dark hole is really going to come in handy when I have to command the siege of the Dark Lord's Tower at end game. They could at least make it the wine cella. But no! It's always some grotty fruit cellar with broken boxes, no good loot and, if I'm really unlucky, Norman Bates' mother.
