Such a great perspective on teaching social skills!! I wish my parents had encouraged that in me as a child. This has given me a lot to think about as a new mom, I would love for my daughter to be able to talk to people of all ages. Oh and I wanted to add here that being labeled as shy growing up was sooo damaging for me! I ended up being super insecure because I thought everyone just automatically saw me as a shy weirdo. Looking back now it seems like that mindset sabotaged many potential friendships/relationships.

Great episode. We bought our children a cd player also. We would play music over the echo at night. We were realizing that they would constantly play ads. It may be extreme, but I DID NOT like how they could listen listening to advertisements of any kind while sleeping. So we went back to the basics with the cd player.

I was labeled shy I believed in kindergarten. I actually remember when I started to change the way I acted. I did something (I don't remember what it was) but the response I got from that action was not a positive one (nothing bad, it was just what my family said to me) and I remember from then on I didn't have the self esteem to be myself around my extended family. I was myself at school and at home but around everyone else I did not open up. I had low self esteem, I didn't feel comfortable being myself. It took me so many many years to finally feel comfortable to be myself around anyone (probably when I was in college). I hated that label. And then when I acted different than I usually did, I was labeled "breaking out of my shell" and I had that label too. How do you feel about the socialization of girls. For instance, girls always been called cute and pretty. My 3 year old gets such praise about her looks and now she seeks the praise all the time. So I try to reinforce that she is also smart. But every complements her on her looks.

LOVE!!!! I love that someone else has finally agreed with my view on talking to people! Totally agree, my kids say hi to everyone, we don't hide behind mommy's legs if you're safe. My mom never let us say we were bored. "Oh you are? The toilets need cleaned, the dishes need put away, the living room needs vacuumed" we are doing the same with ours, if you can find something to do I will for you. Love your take on shy, totally agree. My BIL is labeled shy and it's just a way for him to be so rude and get away with it. No screens for us when we're not around either! Biggest reason for us is safety and morals. Love everything you said, I resonate with it all

Great episode. I was homeschooled growing up and I was definitely one of the weird, awkward kids 😂 no shade to my parents, but I wish that they would’ve made me do the things you talk about here. I was a very nervous and scared child around others and that carried with me for a long time, still struggle putting myself out there today. I love the way you guys parent and your clear, concise way of thinking and reasoning.

I also agree with most except the “I am bored” part, to ME it is like a feeling and I actually have Thought my 4 year old to express that feeling 🤦🏽♀️ I said things like: “you are Not hungry Again you just had something to eat, you are probably Bored” 😂 and now he says it and mostly I can tell that he is indeed bored. So for me it is ok for him to be intuned with that feeling and I give him an idea of what to do.

Love this and totally agree with everything. We love disney & Barbie’s in my house and don’t want to give that up. Even though I know Disney has a dark side. And we do screen time but no more than one hour. Would love tips to get rid of the screen time. Lol

Love this so much! As a mom of 9 year old twin boys, I'm forever working on cutting down on the tech time (I SO regret ever making that a habit when they were younger LOL) I think it's really important to teach them to be respectful and to effectively communicate with people (kids and adults). There is legit not enough of this in the world anymore LOL Kids just don't get taught this stuff. I just started ready the Danish Way of Parenting and I really enjoy it! Would love to hear any other recommendations that you have! :)

Dude! I didn’t know this channel existed! 😮 My eldest daughter though has like social anxiety or something of the like because every time she sees someone even sometimes family she shuts down. I’ve tried to address it but my goodness this is a hard area for us. Maybe role playing will help a lot more and practicing intentionally for that situation. That’s a great idea. Totally agree on Disney everything g has magic and spells. I haven’t completely cut it out but I have talked to them telling them how magic is not of the Lord and other things and they understand. We all get to cuddle as a family and watch 1 thing they choose a day and that’s it for screen time. Somethings I think that’s too much though.

Interesting I wonder what the book is about, I was born and partially raised in Holland and had no idea that Dutch kids are considered happy kids 😳 that is def. Not the case for Dutch adults, lol. But must be because they give their kids way more independence/freedom

So many good points here. I have had the exact same experience with my daughter and Disney movies. I typically limit all “twaddle” and so she wasn’t desensitized enough to enjoy Disney movies at my in-laws or at my moms. I’d have to skip over the scary scenes a lot and I tried to watch it through her eyes and felt pretty disturbed with the content that they are creating for our kids. They also tend to put in a couple of dirty jokes here and there.

I’m loving this channel! (Along with your other channel as well!) Although you may be opening a can of worms, I’d LOVE a video of you going more in depth on the Disney thing! As someone who watched all things Disney, and has some Disney obsessed family members I’ve never though too much about it. It wasn’t until a few months before we took our kids to Disney for the first time that I even learned there are people out there (Christian’s in particular) that have some issues with Disney. Myself being a Christian it’s been a bit on an internal conflict trying to decide what’s simply innocent and being taken too seriously, and what’s really sinking into the minds of children!

Thank you! Like I mentioned, I'm not ANTI like I don't let them wear a disney pricess logo etc lol but just overall I've found better things to watch/read.

Try good fight ministries or little light studios here in KZbin. Just be careful though if you are not used to seeing how evil the world is, you may be taken Aback. But as Christian’s we need to know that this world belongs to the fallen one, and is a fallen world.

You should travel to Denmark and see the culture at work first hand. And read up on Denmark and Christianity. Denmark is very forward thinking. The opposite of what you preach
