Hi! Really love your video! I’m actually transferring to UH Manoa this Fall so this was super helpful! I was discouraged to take on my major too because of calculus, but one of my friends told me about a math class specifically geared towards business majors who need to fulfill that calculus requirement, but don’t want to take calculus. I took the class online from Leeward community college, and it was super easy and the credits were transferable 😊

I’ve heard and seen a lot that locals really hate mainlanders moving there Becuase they think we disrespect the culture and land I just want to know if that’s true.. I would love to go to school there but for a $50,000 out of state tuition I don’t want to feel like I’m hated just for not being born there. I’m from Colorado and was raised outdoors and that being respectful to the land is the most important. I’m also generally able to do research it’s not like it’s impossible to find out the right way to respect the people and there culture. But even with that if there’s still a general like resentment towards mainlanders I want to opt it out now.
@JohnnyyLumm4 жыл бұрын
Locals hating on mainlanders is more of a joke. I don't think you'll have a hard time here, as long as you embrace Hawaii and resist the urge to touch sea turtles
@fumikoh62312 жыл бұрын
(My family has been in Hawaii for generations, for reference.) Unfortunately, it’s not so much mainlanders, but more just white people who face discrimination. Hawaii is made up of primarily Asians, so there is a bit of “reverse racism,” (from what you’d see on the mainland) directed towards white people, as they’re seen as foreigners. The Hawai’i locals are generally not fond of tourists, for many reasons. From what I’ve seen, if you’re any race other than white (and maybe black, though I’ve never seen it), you’ll probably not face any discrimination. White people are referred to as “haolē,” and while Asians are pretty non-confrontational, discrimination will come in the form of getting ripped off or feeling ostracized from the community. This is coming from an Asian with one white parent who has faced these things. Hawaii is honestly a pretty racist place, but that’s also why many minorities who have experienced racism on the mainland will see it as a place of refuge and enjoy life there. It’s also important to note that you’ll mainly stay in the college community, so this probably won’t be much of an issue

@@JohnnyyLumm could you pls let me know if there is a lot of drugs on campus or is it a pretty drug-free community? I have no idea what college in Hawaii is like.
