@@TebstechpodcastI live in Sandton, and we most certainly have loadshedding!! We have a big Conference Centre here in the CBD. When they (our politicians) had a conference there, with many VIPs from other countries, they managed to keep our power going! But otherwise we had schedules for loadshedding times, and got them. Some people have power generators or Invertors to use while electricity is not available. Even if it just helps to provide a light, and can keep the fridge going. The more affluent are switching to solar power. At the moment we have not had any problems for a few months. However, the infrastructure is old, and has not been properly maintained, so our problems are not over yet.😊

Lol. That all surface level stuff. Our country is actually heading in the right direction when you look closely at the trending negatives things going on in it.. Remember me in about 10 years time. Things are purposely falling and being torn apart and making room for a more efficient economy. And it can't happen on the cracked foundation we've been trying to rebuild it on since 1994. A Coalition government is around the corner and it will be a huge mess for a few years. Then slowly stabilise as the years progress. Our country cannot be run by one party anymore but together they can be more efficient because each has their own unique strengths where the other might not be good at. Watch this beautiful mess turn into a real powerhouse in about 10years.

When you step off the kerb, you are free game. Keep that in mind and you'll be a lot safer.

As a American, I love South Africa! I am thinking of moving there for college (I'm 17). If any of y'all are South African please tell me how it is there. I've heard the crime is bad but that's really the only thing.

Come with an open mind and you will learn much... There is crime everywhere in the word...

Great info. By the way, Paul Simon's Graceland album is one of my all-time favorites. As you probably know, in hit he collaborates Lady Smith Black Mambazo of South Africa. I wonder how the music scene in South Africa is doing these days.

0:40 Johannesburg atmosphere is not a culture shock to americans. E.g. Diverse cosmopolitan. 2:00 Affordability. City and tourism (at least for Americans) is inexpensive. 3:12 Many different languages are spoken, including English. 3:54 Load shedding - scheduled blackouts occur in the city (also nationwide). 5:46 Level of driving isn't terrible but drivers are ruthless and easy to have close calls. 6:56 Wall plug outlets are different than what you may expect but several outlet types and adapters are available. 8:17 Women. Curviest women Sly's ever seen (and experienced?).
