7 Things You Shouldn't Miss on Norwegian Encore

When I boarded Norwegian Encore in Seattle, I thought I knew what to expect, I’ve been cruising with Norwegian since I was 11 and have been on similar ships in the past, but there were still things about Encore that took me by surprise. If I had known these things pre-cruise, I’d have saved myself time and money.

I’d also have saved myself some unnecessary steps if I knew about the carpet trick. Norwegian Encore is the largest ship in the Norwegian fleet, so it’s not surprising that sometimes I get lost. It can be hard to know which way is forward and which is back in the corridors because they mostly look the same. Norwegian Encore is over 300 metres long, the same as 23 buses lined up or 3 big bens on their side, so you don’t want to go the wrong way. In the past, I have been late to meeting friends just because I went back instead of forward or vice versa and ended up getting very lost.
Norwegian do have a solution to this and it lays below everybody's feet. Along the passenger corridors, the carpets have fish on them, and almost all of these fish are swimming forward. I say almost always because I can’t be sure that there isn’t one cheeky little fish that is going the other way. I took a cruise a little while ago on Norwegian Sun, and one red fish was going backwards. She’s a very independent little fish! I never saw any going the other way on Encore, but I didn’t walk along every single corridor of the ship, so I can’t say for sure, that would take ages.
Some of the newer Norwegian ships have triangles on the carpets that mean the same thing.

Encore is definitely a great ship in the NCL fleet. The on-stage Choir of Man social starts around 20 minutes prior to the scheduled show start time. Arrive early if you are interested in that. Even if you don't want to drink a beer, you can still go up on stage and socialize. Taking selfies on the stage with the players is a unique cruise opportunity. The cast are rather sociable blokes and it's a nice way to meet them before the actual show begins.

Hi Emma! Thanks for this series!! We've only sailed smaller ships around Alaska but definitely want to be able to sail a larger ship. love all the new technology on board; legit, cup holders in the theater is game-changing! hahaha. We tried the NCL Getaway a couple of years ago, but we were not impressed with NCL. I doubt that we will try them again, especially with the quality of their cruise experience declining.

What does $25 dining package supplement mean? We are going on our first cruise this October to Alaska on the Encore. We were looking at the menu's and prices of specialty restaurants and saw this listed under a few of the more expensive menu items. I'm assuming it means this meal is only partially covered? Also, should I buy more specialty dining on top of the 2 that came with the package or is the complimentary food good enough for 7 night cruise? Thank you.

The two dinners in Free at Sea offer should be sufficient. The Italian, Onda by Scarpetta, had the best filet mignon I’ve eaten. Le Bistro, French cuisine, is excellent, too. Other nights, the menus should offer choices to meet most cruisers tastes, be it in the Manhattan Room with its large windows, or Taste or Savor with their more intimate layout. Don’t forget to try The Local for nearly round the clock diner style food. That’s just scratching the surface.
