I must be the exception you speak of. I never worked out at a commercial gym, I could never do it consistently. I Dreaded doing it. But I went ALL OUT on outfitting my home gym, cream of the crop, nothing but the best, top dollar. WAYYYYYYYYY over budget, and now I use it every day, or almost every day, and the days I don't (because I can't if im sick or not at home etc) use it i'm sad and thinking about how i'd rather be training right now. Buying gear I'm happy, that makes me smile whenever I even think about it and makes me full on grin whenever I see it is what has made and continues to make the difference in motivation for me. Plus thinking about even the possibility of not using my equipment after paying so much for it fills me with a dread so intense, that I would drop kick anyone, including myself, if an article of laundry ever landed on it "temporarily". I would never buy all "X". I simply buy what I know is the best on the market.

For me a gym membership next to my work was my cheaper option, since after the gym validated the parking I had to pay anyway it was basically free. 7 months of training and 60 lbs later I am building my home gym. I am hooked on strength training.

I owned a bowflex, weider crossbow and a finnlo bioforce. By far the best one was the bioforce . The bioforce has far better build quality, the smoothness of the cable to the aesthetic look. Only thing was the cable pull is fairly short. But yes, it was the best out of those three.

I agree Amazon reviews are pretty useless. I had two gyms (detached garage gym and the bad weather gym) which was the living room and eventually a bedroom next to it. In 2020 i bought a lesser squat rack for my bad weather gym and it was the cap 3x3 squat rack. Its thinner steel than the 2x2 version, uses bracings which take away the ability to deadlift with it and its max weight capacity is 300lbs but in reality 100 lbs is questionable with its bent up spotter arms. Its so bad no replacement parts or accessories are offered for it and it costs twice as much as their stronger 2x2 rack that does have accessories available for it and you can spot with. Amazon reviews on the 3x3 rack are nothing but positive other than a few reviews including mine. My yosuda mini elliptical was garbage too despite Amazon reviews. I had to replace parts on my own because some of the ones they provided didn't even fit and after replacing them i had to keep tightening the whole machine with a pair of wrenches after each 30 minute session. The yosuda rower actually worked as designed but was so poorly designed that the magnetic resistance settings hardly did anything. I gave away both cardio machines and i hope to use the cap 3x3 to hold my curl bar collection after i buy some more j cups. I will also use its weight horns for change plates and use its two vertical bar holders for my landmine barbells (i have dual landmines). Definitely skip buying gym equipment thru Amazon unless its cheap weight plates or a beater bar with free shipping.

Thanks for posting this. Sorry to hear of the bad experiences, but more people need to know about this. I meet so many people who buy on Amazon based on reviews, it's kinda scary.

Biggest mistakes I’ve made was having my OCD get the best of me lol. Do I need 5-100# hex weights by 5s? No… Not only that but bought up to 125 (and sold the 105-125 at a loss). For my purposes, heavy kettlebells are not really useful but bought a set of 4-48kg by 4s. Having all 3 Concept2 ergs (really only use the bike but can’t bring myself to sell the other 2 lol).

A lot of wisdom in the financing section. I hope more people listen. The trend of buy now pay later across all industries, but especially in fitness equipment is especially concerning. They have a lot of people fooled that they are somehow cheating the system while locking them into never ending debt. Own your gym, don’t let it own you.

@@Mrwatson185 Thanks. I've been in pretty deep debt a couple of times in my life and it just kills everything else. And they make it darn near impossible to get out. Once you start getting extra interest, penalties, and fees, they've got you in their claws and don't ever want to let go. I learned a while back that the insider term in the CC industry for people who pay their bill in full every month is "deadbeat" because they can't make any money off of them.

Very few people go down memory lane without sounding condescending to the younguns. I found your infomercial throwback very entertaining lol. I'm a 90s kid, I didn't realize they used them to fill TV slots lol. This is the kinda speech I wish people gave to Gen Z more often instead of you know, being arrogant about it.
