We'll most likely never be fully there where it will be truly difficult to the player to differentiate between real life looks and game graphics. Because our brain always knows that what you see is simply a game, so automatically you will see its graphics as such. Therefore we will get closer and closer to the real thing, but never achieve it. Won't stop the term photo-realistic to be thrown around at new games in the same way games from 2002 have been marked photo-realistic.

I'm not saying its the best, but World of Warcraft Vashj'ir was seriously amazing. Most people hated it, but it was my favorite zone in Cata. It was hell to fight in because of the depth perception (pun totally intended), but water IS hell on your depth perception. An enemy may look like its 5 feet away, but its, like, 40 feet away. As a hunter, it was okay, since I could pew pew from that distance. It was just so beautiful. There was even rip currents in the trench areas. It blew my mind and I played almost every single quest (I couldn't find the others at the time and was still trying to level).
